Doom update out now (version 1.1)

Posted on November 10, 2017 by (@NE_Brian) in News, Switch

If you’ve purchased Doom on Switch today, you should be able to have your game at version 1.1. Bethesda prepared a day-one update.

The patch includes Multiplayer functionality, additional game fixes, and audio for supported languages other than English. The update should clock in at around 8GB.

Soo if you don’t want to give up space for the multiplayer you can never patch this game? Hmm.

    • Jack Napier

      Patches use memory.

      • Bart

Pretty sure this update is 8GB because it has the multiplayer in there, not because of bug fixes and stuff…

        • Pepperkeet

You have no idea wtf you’re talking about dude

          • Tjnswitch

LOL i know its funny but we don’t know how young this kid maybe so lets give him a pass

          • Rodrigo Coelho Costa Junior

            I’m with Tjnswitch

          • Tjnswitch

:oP, hope all is well !!!

          • Ricky J Hamilton

You guys do realize that the wording in this article specifically says that this update adds multiplayer and big fixes?
That means that Bethesda packed the bug fixes in with the multiplayer…which is a little dishonest because they always made it sound as if multiplayer was an option if you had a physical copy.

          • Ricky J Hamilton

It’s also an 8gb patch, and Bethesda previously stated that the multiplayer patch would be around 9gb. So, this is pretty close to their original estimate about multiplayer patch for physical copies.

          • Ricky J Hamilton

Now, if I can choose to make a bug patch that’s smaller without ALSO getting the multiplayer patch, then this specific article is poorly worded and I apologize for misunderstanding.

          • Tjnswitch

Just because you read or see something on your PC/smart phone or TV doesn’t mean that its real/factual believe it or not.

          • Ricky J Hamilton

That was a Bethesda press release about a week ago, not some random speculation. So yeah, I was inclined to believe that…despite reading it on an article online.

          • Tjnswitch

Im so sorry about all of this. I often to remind myself of that rule, and try not to let the “hype” effect my thinking ability or decision making when it comes to buying a new game, good luck it you decided to get Doom…i’m going to get it probably next year. I want Wolfenstein II to be my first Bethesda/shooter game experience. Maybe the price will drop my 1st or 2nd Q 2018, what do you think Ricky?

          • Bart

I mean, it’s two short paragraphs, pretty sure I’m reading them correctly… What, it’s 8GB of uncompressed audio or something? Then where is this much talked about multiplayer component for the physical version, because I’m not seeing it on the eshop as a seperate download…

          • Jack Napier

Since when do you get to choose what updates to download within a patch? It’s always all or nothing.

          • Bart

Well yeah but patches don’t usually include the entire damn multiplayer mode, have you been following the news on this game at all? I guess the multiplayer download is still technically optional like they said, this is just not what I had in mind is all.

          • Tjnswitch

don’t pay us any mind, were just having some fun as im sure you are too.

          • Bart

I was wondering about that… Enjoying our friday night are we? 🙂 (dunno what time it is where you live but whatever)

          • Tjnswitch

Thank you, I hope you enjoy your gaming this weekend. :o)

          • Wanderlei

Same experience, was forced to download 7.7GB patch that added multiplayer.

          • Tlink7

Clearly you have no idea what you’re talking about… the DOOM devs said the multiplayer would be an optional download, which it clearly isn’t because it is bundled in with bug fixes and the like. So either you never improve your game or you have to download an 8GB multiplayer portion you’ll never use

          • Paul Barnes

It’s better than nothing I’m just glad the developer patched the game.

    • ecoutercavalier

If you want to avoid the update/patch, put your switch into airplane mode before starting the game and decline the prompt to download update about 3 times. I’ve heard that it works.

      • Paul Barnes

You need the update patch because of the audio glitches the sound cuts out which is annoying.

        • Lance Devon

How the hell did that get through QA?

  • Brazilian Portuguese support in this update?

    • Rodrigo Coelho Costa Junior

      acho difícil hein

    • Aline Piroutek

      That’s my doubt

  • Constantinos Lapiotis

    Greek support in this update?
    (who am I kidding?) 🙂

    • Ektoras Kalderis

      Δεν πας καλά 😛

    • Tlink7

      Herakles ton doulos estin!
How is support for Greek in video games in general? 😀

  • Reggie

8GB just for a day one patch?? I don’t even want the multiplayer. I thought that was supposed to be optional.

    • Roto Prime

DO NOT OPEN, FULL GAME NOT ON GAME CARD!!!!

    • Paul Barnes

Oh well at least the developer patched the game to fix the audio glitches it’s better than nothing.

      • Reggie

No it’s not better than nothing. The bug fixes are appreciated, but we were specifically led to believe that multiplayer mode would be an optional download, not one that would be issued as an automatic update. What they have done before was very misleading and I don’t appreciate that at all. If this patch was solely intended for bug fixes and extra audio, then I would have been perfectly fine with that. But the forced addition of multiplayer, a mode that I don’t even care for or want, is not something I like.

        • SpectralDynamite

So… what are going to do about it then? Got some kind of plan?

          Serious question.

          • Reggie

            Not buy it, I guess.

Which honestly, is a real damn shame since I was earnestly looking forward to this up until this update. I could technically invest in a bigger microSD card (though I don’t exactly want to get one for a day one patch of all things), but the fact is that the patch would take eons to download. My Switch still doesn’t have a perfect connection (which makes multiplayer all the more useless to me), and if the update were to cut out (like something interfering with the wifi, which does happen in my house) then I would be forced to re-download from the start. I just don’t want to go through that.

          • Paul Barnes

I can assure you if your Internet disconnects. You don’t have to download the update from the beginning.I downloaded half of the update myself today then later continued where I left off so you’ve got nothing to worry about. It’s the same with the 3ds you can download games a bit at a time without having to start from the beginning.

          • Reggie

There have been times where downloads have frozen on me, forcing me to cancel the process and start it over. Either way, the whole thing is a killjoy for me.

        • Paul Barnes

Well you can always not update your game and put up with the bugs and glitches.Or you can improve your game I know it’s annoying but there’s not much you can do about it unfortunately.

          • Reggie

There comes a point where you’re forced to download just to boot up the game. I’ve read that turning airplane mode on and declining the update is supposed to work around it, but to what extent? How long would that last? I don’t know. I do know that I would still like to keep my other games updated though.

    • zelgadis greywords

if i remember, correct me if i’m wrong, they never stated that the multiplayer download was optional, only that it was a download from the eshop.

      • Roto Prime

Not everyone knows this (Like me) just a PSA, so you know..

    • Tlink7

Yeah we knew that already xD the devs told us this themselves a few weeks ago. Also why did you buy two copies lol

      • RoadyMike

        ayy, updated avatar

        • Tlink7

Gotta spyce it up every now and then 😀

        • Tlink7

          Why? xD

    • Ghirahim

You knew that weeks if not months ago. Do you live under a rock?

      • Roto Prime

I guess I do, I am not alone in thinking this and wanted to inform other people over this. You can still buy the game, just wanted anyone who looks it up to see that it can’t be played from the game card alone…

  • Roto Prime

Lolololol, thanks for laughing at my pain T_____T

  • MagcargoMan
