Even though Square Enix hasn’t shown much of Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance, you might be pleased to hear that development is going well. Tetsuya Nomura has intentions of releasing the game early next year, but wouldn’t commit to any sort of release date.

Kingdom Hearts 3D will be playable at this year’s Tokyo Game Show for the first time along with Theatrhythm Final Fantasy (also launching early in 2012). Square Enix will likely display trailers for these titles and other projects appearing at the show at their Open Megatheater. The videos will posted online for public viewing once TGS is finished.

In this week’s issue of Dengeki PlayStation, Nomura said that Kingdom Hearts 3D’s quality matches that of a console game. The development team have been working hard on the moves shown in the debut trailer, such as having the ability to run on walls. Nomura promises that Dream Drop Distance will feature the flashiest motion we’ve even seen in a Kingdom Hearts title.

Nomura also discussed the Kingdom Hearts franchise in general. He acknowledged that there is some concern about attracting new players to the series, so he hopes this can be worked on for Kingdom Hearts’ 10th anniversary. Although he wouldn’t elaborate, Nomura teased an “HD technical test”. Could Wii U be a part of those plans?
