[Let’s Talk] What are you playing? – June 2017

Posted on June 3, 2017 by (@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, Let's Talk

A new month is here! We’ve just entered June, so that means we want to know what you’ve been playing.

Have you started up something entirely new for the month? Have you given Fire Emblem Echoes a shot? Or maybe you’re trying something on Switch like Disgaea 5 Complete or Ultra Street Fighter II. Whatever the case, let us know in the comments below!

Highlights from last week’s topic: How do you feel about ARMS?

Locky Mavo

I was already interested in ARMS day one, but that direct has me convinced that ARMS is a must have. Love the visuals, especially the character design. And hearing all the reactions to it from those lucky enough to get the chance to have a go, hearing most them saying along the lines of, it’s great fun to play, but the videos do it little justice, you must have hands on experience to really get the feel of how good it really is and motion controls feel great, to which I already think it looks great and the first testpunch is less than a week away and I can’t wait to try it! Hearing that it ain’t no Punch Out!!!/Wii Boxing gets me excited to play something new as well. The only thing I found disappointing about the direct was no amiibo! Perhaps if it becomes a hit game like Splatoon did they’ll come later? Here’s to hoping.

I was pretty skeptical back in January, but I’m fully in now. Honestly I think that if they released only what they have right now, I’d think it was worth $60. But releasing new characters and modes for free on top of that is just awesome.

I just hope the controls are as good as everyone is saying

my favorite type of character would be byte & barq as they are 2 in 1 character but hey at least its awesome when i saw this at nintendo ARMS direct. And my favorite type of stage might be ribbon ring which is pretty unique.what i also love about ARMS is that it can be playable in all play modes for the nintendo switch and even non motion controls. but with that said i really am excited when the ARMS global testpunch event will be available. but still this will always be my favorite nintendo switch fighting game of all time!.

I was on the fence with Arms but expected it to be good at the same time. That’s because when Splatoon was shown I thought it looked terrible, and Arms had something to it that reminded me of Splatoon, and well, Splatoon became my favorite Wii U game. The announcement of Arms looked “meh” at best, to the point that I thought it was a bad choice to show this game at the system reveal, but after this direct I’m counting the days to be able to play it. At first I thought it would be shallow, like Pokken, don’t get me wrong, I love pokken, but there’s little content there, not many modes and all, it’s just straight to the point and I thought Arms would be similar. But they really worked on it, the grand prix looks fun and it has that mysterious boss battle, all those multiplayer modes, and those 2 on 2. It all reminded me that I haven’t really got hooked on a fighting game since Grand Chase. The characters are just awesome, really well designed and distinct, the gameplay looks solid and with enough twists to keep it interesting. I might be wrong since I haven’t really touched the game to really know, but I’m sold on it. The characters I’m more interested in are Ninjara, Spring Man, Twintelle and Minmin. Of course the test punch might change my mind but I don’t really think it will, for now it’s a day one buy to me. They are doing everything right now, free updates with maps, arms and characters, c’mon, just give me that already.

I’m excited for ARMS but I’m seriously considering not buying it on Day One: since January I had a clear idea of what I would have bought this year: Zelda, Mario Kart, Splatoon 2, Mario Odyssey and Xenoblade 2, yet here I am wanting to play ARMS and owning A LOT of Nindies that I’m loving, now there’s a Mario RPG that will likely come out by the end of the year and, while most people seem to hate it because of the Rabbids, I have a feeling it will be the best Mario RPG of the past 10 years. Hoping (and fearing) that Nintendo will drop some bombs for this fall that we don’t know anything about, my wallet couldn’t take the hit so I’ll wait for a pricecut for ARMS. Still Hoops looks rad

It doesn’t immediately strike me as something that I’d pay $60 dollars for. I think Arms is being put in a position mostly as filler before Splatoon and Mario Odyssey launch later this year. But hey, maybe this will hit it bigger than I expect. It will be interesting to see the reactions from players coming out of the Testpunches, and where the hype goes from there.

It’s been my most anticipated Switch title since it was announced. I never doubted it for a second.

ARMS global test punch. Uncharted 2 and now 3.

Still hacking away at my backlog, which I now realize I’ll take to my grave, and doing my annual replay of OoT 64. Every summer I work my way up to Ganons tower so I can beat it on my birthday.

  • FutureFox

The Last Guardian. Engaging game, but those controls can go to the doghouse.

    • Melatelo

Same! Just finished it and absolutely adored it. The single most moving video-game I’ve ever played. Have never cried from a game before this one. Controls can be a pain though for sure.

    • Indielink

I didn’t find the controls to be TOO painful. If you’ve played Ico or SoTC then it’s nothing unmanageable.

I’m currently playing the “My identity and reputation in general is on the line after my in-real-life relative discovered that I chat here and now wants to join me and will soon find out how much of an awful person I am outside of the real world so this may be my last day on Disqus and NintendoEverything goodbye everyone none of you will miss me” game.

I’m an a$$ hole in person too so I don’t have to worry about that

  • I finally finished Persona 5 today. Now I can shift my focus to Fire Emblem Echoes, at last. ^_^

Blaster Master Zero on 3DS has been taking up most of my game time. I almost regret not buying it on the Switch cuz the thing has been collecting dust until the occasional puyotetris demo losing streak begins anew. I also keep missing the tespunch so I gave up on it. I won’t be touching the Switch till Half Genie Hero come out for it next week

I’m also playing some pokemon again with Yellow, the trading card game on 3DS VC and finishing Sun. I’m also considering buying Explorers of the Sky on Wii U since it’s the one Pokemon game a really wanted but never bought till you can no longer find it in a decent condition(if at all) or at a reasonable price.

  • I’ve been playing the magikarp app… It is very depressing when one of your fish gets eaten by a Pidgeotto…

  • Velen (Not WoW)

I’m playing Fire Emblem Echoes myself and enjoying it. Though due to money issues, it’s the only game I’m playing right now… I would like to get Blaster Master Zero though… and a new SD card to use with my Switch.

Fire Emblem: Fates, Overwatch, ARMS global testpunch, Heroes of Might and Magic 5 and Disgaea 5, alternating between them a fair bit, grabbing my opportunity to play the testpunch while doing Overwatch with friends. Eagerly awaiting E3.

On 3DS, which is pretty much reduced to a Pokémon shuffle machine for me these times I’m playing a bit of Fire Emblem Echoes : shadows of Valentia, but I can’t say I’m making a lot of progress.
The game is great though, I love the story (what I’ve played of it at least), the dungeons are a really neat idea and even though the support conversations still annoy me and break immersion during battles (never mind the people and monsters that try to kill us right now and all the murdering we’re doing everyday and let’s gossip about hot boys/girls, yay) it’s the best experience I’ve had on a Fire Emblem game so far.

Unfortunately for Fire Emblem, the Switch is around and it’s seeing some business lately.
There are the global test punch(es?) for one, and while I really enjoyed them, even warming up to the motion control configurations, I’m still not sold on ARMS. I just don’t really want to invest myself in it, even though it’s very well made and fun.
The main event for me right now and in the foreseeable future is Disgaea 5. There’s finally another compelling single player experience on the console beside Zelda and it’s pretty awesome. So I’m spending most of my gaming time on it (It makes the austere battles of fire Emblem a bit unappealing unfortunately which explains my slown progress in that game).
On top of that I’m still playing Puyo-Puyo Tetris once in a while.

  • FinalArcadia

Slowly but surely working through FE Echoes while also finishing up replaying the first two Zero Escape games. Then I’ll finally be able to move on to Zero Time Dilemma and be free of having to fear spoilers.

Lego City Undercover, Has-Been Heroes, and Ultra Street Fighter II.
