Switch sales surpass 300,000 units in the UK, Mario Odyssey’s first week stronger than any Wii U title’s debut

Posted on October 30, 2017 by (@NE_Brian) in News, Switch

Super Mario Odyssey helped boost Switch sales in the UK. Sales for the system were up 64% week-on-week, catapulting its overall total beyond 300,000 units in the country. With sales from Nintendo’s official store in the UK not included, sales should be even higher.

As for Super Mario Odyssey, it had the biggest launch on Switch this year. Its first week boxed sales are also stronger than any Wii U title’s debut.

Great work, UK. Keep spreading the word.

Mario and zelda are out and the switch has started well in its first year. Your real test starts next year nintendo and you know it.

It should be bigger; Nintendo marketed this far better than any Wii U title that I know of.

Nintendo isn’t popular as Sony in UK.

        …and this very sad

These are great numbers for Nintendo as far as the UK is concerned. The WiiU sold just over 700k lifetime in the UK. The Wii, Nintendo’s best home selling console ever, sold just a little under 980k lifetime. So the fact that the Switch is already over 300k for that territory in less than one year is definitely a good sign.

Out of interest, where did you get the stat for Wii being most successful? I have seen 1,000,000+ quoted for SNES sales in the UK, which would suggest Wii wasn’t the most successful.

Sorry, I meant most successful home console period. The Wii is Nintendo’s best selling home console of all time and I pointed that out to show that even their best selling home console of all time didn’t dominate the sales charts in the UK.

Right I’ve got you. Thanks for clearing that up.

What is wrong with the UK & Europe in General in regards to gaming? They always have rather poor receptions there, or just flat-out ignore good taste for some yearly sport game nonsense? Even when companies breakdown and change tactics never works?

How did you conclude “Wrong”? It’s different, not wrong. Besides, Nintendo is doing better than they’ve ever done here, keep that in mind.

because in uk nintendo brand is as elusive as their dentist

    • Constantinos Lapiotis

Nintendo is doing very well in continental Europe. It’s also doing better and better in the UK. So, it seems there is nothing wrong for now. I’d say the opposite.

Are you sure mommy and daddy should be letting you use the Internet unsupervised? You’re certainly not intelligent enough to be trusted to your own devices.

      What about continental Europe ?
They are doing pretty good there form the numbers that are published.
      It’s just the UK …

Not like any WiiU title even had a potentail close to that of Super Mario Odyssey, so nothing strange there.
