THQ

Unseen64 has dug up some information about FUUB, an abandoned peripheral device from THQ Digital Warrington. It was in the works at some point between 2006 and 2010 for Wii and other platforms. The entire project was scrapped after THQ shifted its priorities.

Here’s how Unseen64 describes FUUB:

“Acting like a set of four individual dice, which were to be bundled together as one purchase, the FUUB was predominantly aimed towards local group play. Each player would interact with one or more of the dice when playing one of the FUUB specific games designed for the device. The devices themselves were fitted with some physical sensors, though it’s not exactly clear what each device was actually able to monitor. We also believe that the FUUBs required a separate, external camera to track the their movement in 3d space, though this cannot be 100% confirmed.”

The aptly-named “FUUB” was one game planned for the device. Not much is known, though it seemed to be somewhat similar to Mario Party.

Another title early in development was “Quest for the Magic Stones”, which a developer describes as targeted at “fans of the Harry Potter series”. It would have featured a mystical narrative theme, set inside a magical dungeon.

Unseen64 has once again shed new light on THQ’s cancelled first-person Avengers title, which was slated for Wii U at one point. The video below has additional details about the project as well as a bit of prototype footage sprinkled throughout.

A few years ago, THQ’s promising-looking Avengers game was leaked. It was later presumed that the first-person co-op beat ‘em up title would have made its way to Wii U.

Unseen 64 filed a new report on the canned Avengers game today with tons of information and assets pertaining to the project. Regarding Nintendo-specific plans, the site says that “plans for an eventual Wii U version of the game were drawn”, but “development on it had yet to begin”. It would have been a port of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 release “with extensive” implementation of the GamePad.

This information comes from Nordic general manager Klemens Kruezer…

– Nordic has acquired the THQ copyright
– Will be publishing games under the THQ name
– This was negotiated outside of the 2013 bankruptcy auctions where Nordic acquired numerous parts of the THQ catalog including the Darksiders series
– Nordic can publish titles with the THQ branding

“It was kind of surprise to some industry veterans and players that we were the winner of the auction of the THQ titles. The challenging fact is nobody has ever heard about Nordic Games before [the THQ auction]. There were so many articles with the headlines ‘Who the f*** is Nordic Games?’ We said, okay they were right. We have seen an uplift in the name of Nordic Games, and what we have also done is we have made a second deal with THQ where we bought the THQ trademark.”

– Nordic currently has the credentials of the THQ Facebook page

“We are small team. The expectations from outside regarding the IPs of THQ are really high. We see it everyday on our Facebook sites. If we post something new to a project the first comments are, ‘Oh, nice. But what about Darksiders 3?’ This where we need some more patience from the fans, because we want to be able to do it right. The owner of Nordic Games has given [interviews] where he has said that he doesn’t want to make a s***y sequel.”
