3DS details roundup: Fantasy Life, Bravely Default, Epic Mickey, Adventure Time

What do Fantasy Life, Bravely Default, Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion, and Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why’d you steal our garbage?! have in common? Other than the fact that they’re all 3DS titles, not much!

We do have details about all four games below. Head past the break for a large batch of information on each.

Fantasy Life

– In the miner job, first mission is to find your mentor Deldas
– Go through town and run onto the main map to find him
– Deldas is looking for gems to prospect
– Field has monsters including bees and angry carrots
– Deldas will explain how to extract gems from stones
– Need to pull out your pickaxe, hit A while next to a rock
– Rock shatters when its life bar is empty
– Can also press Y to do a heavy strike
– This is a rhythm based move
– Tap Y at the right time to hit the rock
– Heavy strikes take more SP
– Energy meter recharges over time
– Can use the weak mining strike if the meter is empty
– Fisherman job has players “battle” with fish
– Toss your lure in water by pressing A
– Press A once the fish bites to lure it until its HP hits zero
– Need to watch the line tension strength by using the Circle Pad
– Other jobs include lumberjack, magician, hunter, carpenter, blacksmith, alchemist, and chef

Bravely Default

– Concept is heavily focused on gameplay
– Four-character setup and job system are key features
– Gameplay and writing are meshed together rather than kept apart
– The team started with the characters
– They felt characters are one of the most important aspects in the game
– Wanted to make characters that would be loved, including villains
– The dialogue would be lively and interesting, and the game’s world would be crafted to create as interesting a setup as the characters needed
– Each of the four main characters is linked to a key aspect in the game and the plot
– Ex: Tiz hopes to rebuild a village
– Recruit more villagers with StreetPass
– These new residents can help with the rebuilding
– Agnes’ background involves searching for the four crystals
– She is also the one most connected to the main plot of the game
– Edea is in charge of the sub-quests and the job class system
– Lingabel is an amnesiac boy who keeps a memo that has events from the future written in it
– Memo can be read at any time

Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion

– Several characters to rescue in each level
– More to do in a level after you complete it
– Quests you receive will require you to return to old levels
– Different enemy patterns after you clear a level
– First level of the second world: where the Castle of Illusion was still at the forefront of the Agrabah world
– Mostly castle-themed
– It has a lot of cannons that you paint and thin to get around the environment
– If you draw the cannon sketch well, it’ll last forever
– If not, it may shoot you out a few times before disappearing
– May have a Metroid reference
– Second level is based off of the streets of Agrabah
– Aladdin-specific enemies will appear such as palace guards
– Swinging chain sketches play a big role in the level
– Need to dodge the chains, then thin them out and paint them back in so you could use them like a rope
– Third level is set in the Cave of Wonders
– Level offers more Aladdin enemies including golden idols that appear in the area in the movie
– Paint and thin magic carpets that carry you across gaps and over enemies
– You can deploy 10 sketches yourself
– Sketches include a Thwomp adorned with the Pete character, Goofy and Scrooge McDuck
– Goofy kicks a soccer ball to hut enemies
– Scrooge rides his pogo stick to bounce around and hit foes
– Sorcerer’s Apprentice-inspired hat sketch makes Mickey temporarily invincible

Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why’d you steal our garbage?!

– Begins with Finn and Jake in their tree house
– Jake is showing Finn their secret basement
– First two minutes are made up of a short tutorial
– Can freely explore the world after that
– Map is like Zelda II’s
– Overworld map has enemies wandering around
– When they’re touched, random battles can start that may bring you loot
– Game becomes a side-scoller in dungeons or in battle
– Jake has stretchy punches, Finn brawls
– Different ways to defeat enemies
– Mini-boss and boss fights from the show
– These fights require some strategy
– Level system: boost stats when you obtain special stars
– Can place a star in health, attack, or defense areas
– Stars are usually attainable after boss battles
– They’re scattered throughout the game
– Characters talk like they do in the show
– Main quest involves the title of the gmae
– Multiple side quests
– Save points are fountains guarded by water nymphs
– Can combine food items to recover more health
– Some enemies are animals with knives and chainsaws
– Fan favorites will appear with sound bits from the show
