SteamWorld Build sales “slightly short of expectations”, SteamWorld Headhunter “put on hold”
As part of its latest financial results, Thunderful CEO Martin Walfisz commented on the sales of SteamWorld Build. While we don’t have specific data, SteamWorld Build “fell slightly short of expectations”.
Switch was actually referenced specifically here. Walfisz said “the genre of this game has not really appealed to our most dedicated target audience and it has not been well-suited to the Switch console, which has traditionally been a key platform for SteamWorld games.”
Also mentioned during the same report is that an in-development project called SteamWorld Headhunter has been “put on hold”. Thunderful did not go into details about the decision. SteamWorld Headhunter was announced at the end of 2021, but we haven’t heard much about it since then.
As for what’s next when it comes to SteamWorld, that remains to be seen. Thunderful may go back to the well of SteamWorld Dig titles, which have been very successful in the past.
