Rumor: Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth planned for Nintendo Switch 2
Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth are both rumored to be making an appearance on Nintendo Switch 2. That claim comes from NateDrake, who said on the latest Nate the Hate podcast that he “can confirm” both RPGs will be on the console.
Both titles are also planned for Xbox. NateDrake said that Final Fantasy 7 Remake is due out first in 2025 followed by Rebirth in 2026. However, it’s unclear if the Nintendo Switch 2 and Xbox versions would launch at the same time.
Last year, after sharing its financial results for the year ending March 31, 2024, Square Enix announced its three-year planned named “Square Enix Reboots, and Awakens”. As part of this, the company planned to “shift to a multiplatform strategy.” Moving forward, Square Enix intends to “aggressively pursue a multiplatform strategy that includes Nintendo platforms, PlayStation, Xbox, and PCs.” Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Rebirth could be a part of that new approach.
To be fair, Square Enix support wasn’t lacking on the current Nintendo Switch. A ton of the publisher’s games are available on the console, including some that were originally or still are exclusive.
NateDrake also spoke about Xbox’s supposed plans for Nintendo Switch 2 including Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Flight Simulator, which we covered here. The full podcast is available here.
