Call of Duty Activision Switch regret

Call of Duty has thus far not made it to Switch, but looking back on things, Activision seems to regret things a bit.

In a court battle taking place this week between the FTC and Microsoft, Activision CEO Bobby Kotick actually ended up commenting on Nintendo’s console. Speaking about the lack of support for Call of Duty on the console, he said: “I made a bad judgment.” Kotick had initially believed Nintendo was trying to do too much with the Switch and that it wouldn’t be a success. However, he has now acknowledged: “It’s probably the second biggest video game system of all time.”

The FTC has been going after Microsoft as it hopes to acquire Activision Blizzard. Elizabeth Bailey, an economics expert at Charles River Associates, said during the proceedings that Call of Duty isn’t “uniquely important” and noted how the Switch has been a success without Call of Duty.

Meanwhile, something else that took place this week was PlayStation boss Jim Ryan commenting on Switch and Call of Duty as well. In his view, the system is not Sony’s direct competitor. When asked why he believes Call of Duty didn’t perform well on previous Nintendo systems, he said it’s targeted at a “very different audience than the standard Nintendo audience that enjoys Mario and Zelda, not Call of Duty.”

If Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard goes through, Call of Duty could finally return to Nintendo platforms. A tentative agreement was previously announced that will last ten years.
