Ubisoft: Red Steel delayed to increase quality
Posted on 15 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in News, Wii | 0 comments
Core Wii owners around the world have shown many signs of disappointment at Ubisofts sudden delay or Red Steel 2 to Q1 2010, but little has been said in detail as to why. At a recent Ubisoft conference, the President of the company had this to say regarding the cancellations.
“Red Steel and Splinter Cell are going to greatly benefit from the additional polishing time we are providing and will clearly be among the leading brands on the Wii and 360 for the March quarter. The changes on Splinter Cell and Red Steel – it’s just a question of polish. The team was asking that they couldn’t be with the level of quality on all the maps and all the game for the end of the year, so they had asked for more time to be able to come with a better product, for both of those games. The quality of the games is there for what you’ve been able to see at E3, but we were not able to have that same quality on the full game of those two products. We really think with the level of quality that we’ll be able to obtain with the time we give them we will have a long shelf life for those products. Now, because [Conviction and Red Steel 2] are launching during that quarter, they will not do as many units for the first month as they would have done in November/December, but we think that on the long-term they can achieve more units than what they would’ve done.” – Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot
A whole new Mii: Black Wii comes with black box

While it may only be a new coat of paint on an old system, it’d be hard to deny that the re-coloration of the Wii makes it look a little more like a big boy system. In addition to just the new colors, however, the system will come with a brand new box to boot! Check it out:
BioWare on Wii – We’re still figuring things out
Posted on 15 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in News, Wii | 1 Comment
Game developer BioWare, well known for their work on the KOTOR and Mass Effect series, have delved a bit into their stance as far as the Wii goes in a recent interview with CVG. Nothing concrete has been confirmed, but they certainly didn’t throw the possibility out the window just yet.
CVG: There’s always talk of you guys being interested in the Wii. Why hasn’t a Wii game from BioWare come into fruition yet considering the Wii’s been massively successful for a fair while now?
Zeschuk: I think… we’re a little slow. No, I mean, the challenge for us has been figuring out what would be the best possible BioWare experience to deliver on the platform. We’ve done a lot of platform exploration – we’ve done our first iPhone game and we’ve done DS, so we’re always looking at platforms. But what’s been hard for us and the Wii is figuring out how to best match the kind of games that we make with the Wii experience.
The optimum Wii experience is a game where four people sit together on a couch and play. We’ve done multiplayer stuff in the past, but our optimal product always engages a player on an emotional level. I’m sure there’s ways to do that on the Wii, but we just haven’t figured that out yet. Once we do that we could very well do something on it.
CVG: So you’re still thinking about it, but you’ve got nothing solid in the pipeline for Wii?
Zeschuk: We’re not specifically developing a bunch of stuff, we’ve just been thinking about it and exploring it, and thinking about Natal as well. When we do act on a platform we really do get behind it, and so we’re really just sitting back right now and figuring things out.
EA: We’re working hard to fix online bugs for FIFA ’10
Posted on 15 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in News, Wii | 0 comments
I was never one for football video games (with the exception of an old FIFA N64 game), and as the result I have never played an iteration of the sport on Wii. Apparently, however, many owners of last years, “FIFA ’09” were having difficulties with the online play, and now an EA employee has issued a statement regarding the bugs and what is being done to fix them in FIFA ’10.
It’s a day before I can officially start posting stuff about what we have done with the FIFA Wii game this year, but since online is such a hot topic I wanted to share some info specific to online a little earlier – it deserves it’s own post!
Goals for FIFA 10 Wii Online
First let me tell you what my goals were for online this year (it’s pretty simple really) – if you and your opponent have decent internet connections, then the game should play as well online as offline and you should be able to complete the games! And because the game plays so well online, a larger online community starts to build for FIFA Wii. That’s it (told you it was simple!).
So what happened with FIFA 09?
Ok, so before I get to the news I wanted to share with you all, let me also tell you that the disconnect issues with FIFA 09 Wii were a result of an error in the code. I noticed reading through the FIFA 09 Forums that there was some confusion as to people’s internet connections or what-not, and while that might have caused some problems, the big one was on our side. We’ve fixed it.

WHAT: Nintendo is transforming New York’s famed Military Island in Times Square into an urban island getaway to celebrate the launch of the Wii Sports Resort™ video game. On July 23, anyone who visits this Manhattan landmark will be treated to a mini-vacation, complete with a sandy beach, swimming pool and tropical lounge — all smack dab in the middle of the city — plus a chance to play Wii Sports Resort in advance of its U.S. July 26 release date. Based on the imaginative Wuhu Island locale featured in the game, this interactive oasis will also offer game demonstrations, giveaways (while supplies last) and a bar serving tropical non-alcoholic drinks.
