Would you look at that beauty? It’s reading blog posts like these that remind me I should really start playing Monster Hunter Tri more. I absolutely love the game, almost to the point of obsession, but since I play with friends only, it’s hard to find time when we can all play together, and thus I am only Hunter Rank 9. Here’s the low down on this beautiful sword:

– Strong lightning element
– Requires 5 lightning tickets
– Lightning tickets are obtained through newest event quest: Sea Power
– Sea Power pits you and your buddies up against 2 Lagiacrus. If you’re familiar with Tri, you know how tough these bad boys are, so taking on two at once is no easy task.
– Event quest runs through July 17

Yesterday we told you about Play.com’s listed release date for a few 3DS titles, but today they’re telling us that those dates were just estimates. Talking to Eurogamer, Play said that they had heard estimates from companies, and simply went with those. What do you guys think? Is this a cover-up, or are we looking too far into it?

Update: Added in a more understandable translation (thanks FB32!)

This information comes from a rough Google translated interview with Hideo Kojima…

“A sample of the 3DS game we showed at E3 was actually an experiment which combined MGS with a handheld that offers 3D. I’ve only had two months to create it. And that’s one reason why we have called it “The Naked Sample.” Having said that, I can assure you that the 3DS will definitely have its own version of MGS, making the most of “naked eye” 3D technology. But for now, I can not tell you what the final title will be.”

This makes it sound like we’ll see Metal Gear Solid on the 3DS eventually. It’s just a matter of what form it’ll take. Although, considering Kojima hasn’t had much time to work with the system, I wouldn’t expect the title to make it out for the 3DS’ launch.

SAN FRANCISCO (6 July, 2010) – SEGA® of America, Inc., today announced that Tournament of Legends is now available in stores. The Wii exclusive weapon and magic based 3D-fighter features epic battles in fantastic fighting arenas where players will wield mythical blade weapons, launch 40 magic attacks, and dodge giant mythological creatures that protect the battle lairs. In intense one and two-player fights, players master a range of character and weapon based magic attacks; including unleashing, amongst others, a man-eating lion, Jupiter’s Storm, Thor’s Fury and a nest of venomous snakes. No other Wii weapon fighting game offers this much variety and challenge. Tournament of Legends is available for $29.95 (MSRP).

“We have 10 devastating weapon sets that can be used across multiple characters and 30 incredible enchantments that enhance the combat with a magical flare. Additionally, the game features lots of unlockable content including new characters, weapons, and enchantments that are all unlocked through gameplay. When you couple this with our highly customizable controls and the ability to use the Nintendo Classic controller; we are offering many new features that no other fighting game offers in the Wii market. We set out to offer Wii-gamers a fighting game that was built from the ground up for them; allowing you to choose your character, weapon set, enhancement, and do battle the way you want to” said Eric Nofsinger, Chief Creative Officer at High Voltage Software.

“If I could come across everything that I played I would have to go with Chrono Trigger. I think Chrono Trigger was one I really enjoyed. It’s tough because a lot of the Japanese RPGs have very specific functions for everything. There is very specific item progression, very specific class progression, very specific everything. I think… I don’t know I’d have to think about it. I think it would be fun to take the setting of a Japanese RPG, which is a weird mix of fantasy and sci-fi mashed together and make a Western RPG out of that,” Urquhart chimed in. “I think that would be cool. I mean it’s kind of Star Wars, that’s kind of what Star Wars is a fantasy in space. I think that would be interesting.” – Feargus Urquhart, CEO of Obsidian

“I think we’re going with Chrono Trigger because it has elements of a Western RPG. It’s more open, it’s still mostly linear, but there are parts you can explore more. There are lots of differences, like you can beat Lavos at different parts of the game and you get different endings based on that. There are obvious answers like dialogue trees and all of that good stuff. The seeds are there for that kind of development.” – Nathan Chapman, Lead Designer

Hmm…As much as I respect Obsidian, I just don’t know about letting them work on a new Chrono Trigger. I think I’d rather see Square Enix handle the title internally.
