Bayonetta creator told Sakurai “to do whatever he wanted” when bringing the character to Smash Bros.
MinnMax recently conducted a rapid-fire interview with game developer Hideki Kamiya, and one of the topics quickly discussed was Bayonetta’s inclusion in Smash Bros.
Bayonetta made her first appearance in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U / 3DS as the final DLC addition. Kamiya created the character, but seemed to let director Masahiro Sakurai do his thing in bringing her into the Smash Bros. universe.
Kamiya said: “I told Sakurai to do whatever he wanted. I trusted him to do the best job.”
We have seen Sakurai work with creators of their respective characters for Smash Bros. in the past. You may recall that the slightly updated look for Wii Fit Trainer in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was actually a request from the developers.
During the same interview, Kamiya joked around a bit while talking a bit further about Sakurai. When asked if he’s angry at him for making YouTube look so easy, Kamiya said in response: “Yeah, but I think my YouTube channel is much more interesting than Sakurai’s.”
The entire Bayonetta trilogy is available now on Nintendo Switch. Kamiya has left PlatinumGames, but recently discussed his plans for the series had he stuck with the company.
