Update (5/3): The Blaster Master Zero update should be out now on Switch. Tomorrow on 3DS.

Update: The update may not actually be available until tomorrow. We’ll let you know when it releases officially.

Original (5/2): Inti Creates has detailed a new update for Blaster Master Zero. With version 1.2, Destroyer Mode and EX Character Mode will be added. Switch owners should be able to download the update now while 3DS players will need to wait until Thursday.

Here’s an overview of the new modes:

Destroyer Mode

In this mode, it calls for you to make the right call at every turn and make use of your entire arsenal if you want to have a chance at defeating these powered up mutants.

Destroyer Mode provides a whole new type of challenge for those who have completed the game once before, so be sure to give it a try!

In Destroyer Mode, Jason and SOPHIA II receive a little color makeover!

EX Character Mode

Version 1.2 also comes with EX Character Mode, which allows you to play through the entire game as one of many brand new DLC characters that will be available. These characters aren’t just skins, though! They have their own set of abilities and weapons that create a gameplay experience completely different from that of the main protagonist, Jason.

The first two “EX Characters” are as follows:

EX Character – Gunvolt (Azure Striker Gunvolt): May 4
EX Character – Ekoro (Mighty Gunvolt / Gal*Gun): June 1

Each time a new character is made available, players can download it for free during the first two weeks. After that, they’ll be priced at $1.99.

Capping off today’s news is a demo for Blaster Master Zero. It will offer two stages: Forest Area (Area 1) and Industrial Area (Area 3). The trial wll be out this Thursday.
