General Nintendo

Just so you guys know, this is an arcade game!

London (10 November 2009) – Square Enix Ltd. and Eidos Interactive Ltd. announced today that the reorganisation of the two companies’ operations has been completed. The combined business in the UK will operate under the name of Square Enix Ltd. and is part of the Square Enix Europe business unit. Square Enix Europe is the unified business unit representing the sales and marketing offices in the UK, France and Germany which together promote our titles across Europe and other PAL territories, together with a global network of leading development studios.

“Today marks a major achievement towards the goals we announced in July and represents the creation of an efficient and powerful structure for game development and publishing.” said Phil Rogers, president and chief executive officer of Square Enix Europe. “We have a formidable product-line up which truly showcases the diversity of our exceptional gaming brands.”

This is what Level-5 President Akihiro Hino had to say in regards to seeing Hershel or Luke in a Smash Bros. or Mario Kart game…

“That would certainly be a wonderful opportunity!”

I’m not so sure about Mario Kart, but Professor Layton in Smash Bros. could be a neat appearance. And don’t forget about Travis from No More Heroes! Suda said a few months back that he’d be interested in seeing him in there.

While Yoshinori Ono has been a developer for numerous Capcom games, he has mostly been known for his work on the Street Fighter series. And apparently, Ono has a pretty “awesome” secret. Check out these messages that were recently left on Capcom’s official Twitter

“Ono-san is full of surprises today. Hotness incoming…Ono showed us something TOTALLY AWESOME that we’re not allowed to talk about for a few months. He’s a total tease…”

Sadly, as Capcom mentioned, we won’t understand what this secret is for a few months. If it is truly awesome, though, it should be worth the wait!

Namco Bandai will be making a “major announcement” in a week, but there are a few clues as to what this game may actually be. First, when you visit the teaser site, the page says that it’s “Next RPG Project K.” So, it’s probably an RPG. There’s also some speculation that the game may be a new Tales title for the DS.

This response comes from Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, again, from the Q&A portion of Nintendo’s latest financial briefing. Iwata was addressing the question of “if a decrease in the current financial performance is rather temporary” and if Nintendo will “be able to put the company back to the growth orbit” thanks to “the strong software lineup.”

“I cannot understand at all why some people come to think that Nintendo has lost its edge as soon as they hear such news that other companies are newly applying for motion sensing technology. If fun and interesting software to take advantage of the technology could be created that easily, a number of other titles which are more fun than Wii Sports must have been already launched for Wii. Why in real life are not so many? The total power factor to combine both the technologies and software at the appropriate level must be the reason why Nintendo has been appreciated in the marketplace, and when someone argues that Nintendo has lost its edge when the actual products have not been launched yet, I feel something must be wrong here.”

This information comes from Capcom’s Senior Manager of Community, Seth Killian, who was responding over at Capcom-Unity to someone who said that the company favors Nintendo consoles:

“IMO, Capcom is the third-party publisher with the BEST cross-platform support out there. Fans of any particular console will always want something for the other consoles, and I understand that, but since all the consoles are successful in today’s market, we’re actively supporting them all (the love is pretty evenly spread even to handhelds).

While I know it’s easy to do the ‘you did that game on console X and not on my console Y!!!’, we really are trying and I think we’re much better at it than the other publishers, so please look at the question in terms of overall industry context rather than just in terms of specific games.”

It’s hard for me to complain about Capcom’s Nintendo support now that we know Okamiden is in development for the DS. There are also a number of other DS and Wii titles to look forward to including Monster Hunter 3, Ghost Trick, and Tatsunoko vs. Capcom. With that said, I’ll admit that there have been a few flops here and there (Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop comes to mind).
