Site updates

Well, guys…Nintendo’s conference will be starting about 13 hours from now. Can you believe that once tomorrow is over we’ll know about Zelda Wii, the 3DS/software, and the Vitality Sensor? This is quite an odd E3 since we know a good amount of what Nintendo will show. There’s also a few rumors going around, including one about a Donkey Kong game for Wii as well as a brand new Animal Crossing title for the 3DS.

Like we’ve been doing since NE opened its doors, we’ll be here live to provide you with updates literally the moment they happen. I’ll be making one more post tomorrow morning about the conference times, but until then, have a good night and make sure not to dream about Nintendo too much!

We have some very important site news to bring to you today! Fortunately, it comes just in time for E3.

I’d definitely say that this is the biggest site update we’ve had since Nintendo Everything opened in 2007. Looking back at that year and thinking about where we are today, it’s almost impossible for me to believe where we’re at now and how far we’ve come. A lot has changed on the site in terms of what news we bring you, how we bring it to you, and how often we bring it to you.

Over the last few months, I’ve been thinking about the success of the site. Not in terms of viewership, but instead about how we’ve managed to accomplish our goal of bringing Nintendo fans the most important Nintendo news on a consistent basis and in a passionate way.

Keeping this at the top for a few hours!

I was going to include this as part of an all inclusive and very important update, but since the main surprise is taking a bit longer than expected, I thought I’d split up the huge news into two smaller posts. We’ve added a few new features to the site as well as made some minor changes, which I hope you’ll like! Here’s a rundown:

– “Favicon” – You know those little icons that appear in bookmarks? Well, we finally have one. It isn’t fancy, but hopefully it’ll make the site stand out more! The image should appear in your bookmarks and possibly your URL bar depending on your browser.

– Archives change: The monthly archives were starting to build up on the sidebar, so we’ve changed them from monthly links to a drop-down list and moved it to the bottom of the page.

– Features page: We’ve changed the “3D Images” page to “Features” page. Unfortunately, I haven’t had much time to create any additional images. Also, in a sense, they’re outdated (thanks to the 3DS not needing glasses and all this talk about 3D gaming in general!). I’ll see what happens down the road in regards to future 3D pictures, but for now, I’m pleased with our features page. Just so you know, it’s updated automatically and sorted by author!

– You may not have noticed this since I never told you guys, but our “Polls” page has changed. You can see a full archive of every single poll that’s been up and you can continue to vote on past polls.

– One of the bigger additions we’re implemented is the ability to directly reply to what someone else on the site has said in the comments section. All you have to do is hit the “Reply” button underneath a person’s comment, enter some text, and you’ll be ready to go!

– We’re now using avatars based on images uploaded to Gravatar. Simply visit that website (or click here), complete a one minute registration form (if you haven’t already registered, that is), and upload an image. As long as you enter the email address you signed up with for Gravatar on Nintendo Everything, your avatar will appear automatically in the comments section. I believe a few of you already use the service, so no further set up is required to see your avatar. I should also mention that comments made in the past will have avatars attached to them as long as the email used is tied in to Gravatar!

Before ending this post, I’d like to point out our very awesome forum. Why is it awesome? Well, I’d argue we have the best group of Nintendo fans posting there! We’re a small community, though I blame myself for that since I’ve done a fairly poor job promoting it. I know that I’d love to see you there, and I’m sure the other forum members feel the same way. So check it out and join us in some fun, lighthearted Nintendo discussion!

If you need clarification about anything, feel free to leave a comment below or send us an email. Additional features will most likely be implemented in the future, though I hope you like what we have up to this point. I realize that most of today’s changes were long overdue, though I have a feeling that more significant updates will be made to the site in the future.

Have you been had any trouble accessing the site today? I’m assuming that’d be a “yes” for pretty much all of you. The thing is, NE has actually been up for almost the entire day! I had to make a few DNS settings changes, but unfortunately, the “downtime” varies for different people. Usually DNS changes take up to 24 hours to propagate, so I’m betting that a few of you won’t even be able to read this until tomorrow. All should be fine in a few hours, though!

And speaking of site updates, I’m going to have another one very soon. All I’ll say for now is that this is the biggest update since the opened the site in 2007! Stay tuned for more information…

If you didn’t already guess, there will not be a game night this week due to my absence from a Wii both tonight and tomorrow night. Sorry for any inconvenience on the part of those looking to play with us this weekend, and another apology for updating this so late! Also, I won’t be in town next weekend either, so I’m not entirely sure what we’re going to do about that! Give me some time to get creative and maybe we can work something out!

Until then, see you all!

I’m not quite sure what just happened there! The site experienced some downtime for a little over an hour. Luckily, our tech guy was able to get us back online somewhat quickly. I apologize that the site was inaccessible, but hopefully I’ll be able to share a more significant site update in the coming days…Anyway, time for me to get back to posting news.

Update: Game Night is now over!

Howdy, fine readers! I hope you all are here to make tonight another awesome game night, full of fun, laughs, yelling, and all of those wonderful emotions associated with online gaming. For tonight we don’t have a specific game to play, so hop in and make a suggestion and we’ll do our best to accommodate you! Remember, the IRC requires no sign-up, and it’s probably the coolest place on the internet during game nights! Hop on in, open a bag of chips, sit down on the couch, and get ready for another fun evening of gaming!

Hey guys, how’s everyone doing today? I hope quite well! I’d like to let everyone know that we’ll all be playing games at 6PM CST (4PM PST, 7PM EST) tonight, so make sure you boot up your Wiis and pop in some wifi games to play! We haven’t picked a specific game to play, but I’d expect that there will be rounds of Mario Kart, Monster Hunter, or The Conduit going often enough. If you have any wifi-enabled games you want to try and play with people, make sure you show up!

Hey guys! I definitely promised myself that I would get this announcement up on Saturday, but something came up and things got too hectic for me to do anything at all site related until today! But hey, I’m back and here it is, the new and improved game night! How is it improved you ask? Well, here’s how:

We no longer have one specific game we’re going to play.

It has come to my attention that occasionally all of us playing might get bored of the game we’re playing (I’m look at you, The Conduit!) and having the rule of just playing one game doesn’t give us much leeway to do what we want. Additionally, it bars certain people from entering the game nights who don’t own certain games! So, starting now, all you have to do is show up and see who else is online to play with! One of the staff members might not necesarily be in your game, so you’ll have to check in with one of us via IRC to see what we’re playing, but there’s a much better chance you’ll find people to play with this way! So show up this Friday and join us to play whatever it is we play!

Update: A short game night, but it’s now over!

Hey guys, it’s yet another week gone by, so it’s time for another game night! Grab your copies of Mario Kart Wii and hit up the IRC (no sign up required!) to join us for as long or as short as you want to! No need to have sent in your FC beforehand – just jump in and we’ll get everything good so you can join us! The only thing is something has come up in my personal schedule, so I’ll only be around for a short while. I’m sure the games could last after I leave, though!
