Ghostlight shares plans for Devil Survivor 2’s European release
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in DS, News | 0 comments
Ghostlight is playing it safe with the European release of Devil Survivor 2. The company has plans to distribute the game exclusive through pre-orders on its online store.
There is a catch: a minimum threshold of pre-orders must be reached in order for Ghostlight to manufacture the RPG. If it’s hit, Devil Survivor 2 will launch as planned. But if not, pre-orders will be refunded and Ghostlight will not release the game.
Ghostlight explained in a new blog post:
All you Devil Survivor fans out there will be pleased to hear that we have managed to finalise discussions with our partners regarding Devil Survivor 2 on DS and have decided to go ahead with the following plan. Devil Survivor 2 will be released exclusively for pre-order through the Ghostlight Webstore with a (TBC) minimum quantity. Should we achieve this minimum quantity of pre-orders within one month, we will manufacture and release the game. However, if we don’t reach the minimum then everyone who pre-ordered the game will be refunded and the game will unfortunately not be released. We realise that we’re asking for a huge amount of trust and support from our fans on this one, but we know that you are a very special lot and you all seem to fully appreciate what we’re trying to achieve in bringing over JRPGs like DS2. We simply couldn’t do what we’re doing without you and with your continued support for the Ghostlight cause we’re hoping we can give DS2 its best shot at getting a European release. As a little incentive, if you do pre-order the game, as a special thank you we’ll add your name to the manual
[Famicompendium] Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan – My cheers are burning red!

I hope you all like anime cheerleaders and J-pop, because this week I’m taking a look back at a pair (or is it a trio?) of quirky rhythm games produced by iNiS that are up there as personally my favourite games on the Nintendo DS. As a development team that takes a clear musical direction with each of their games (iNiS itself stands for Infinite Noise of the Inner Soul), they understand how to create a perfect blend of personality and compelling gameplay unlike anything else out there. Case in point: their 2005, Nintendo-published title – Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan (“Yeah! Fight! Cheer Squad”, if you were wondering why nobody ever translates its name) In an interview with 1UP, the game’s director Keiichi Yano stated that iNiS’s philosophy was to create games with “passion” – both in terms of the act of making the games and the actual content. Rather than making games as pure entertainment, he wants to create experiences that “make people feel good”. None of their games exemplify this approach quite as well as Ouendan because, really, who can express and incite passion quite like a good cheer squad?
Seventh Professor Layton game wouldn’t “be the Layton we know today” if it happened
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, DS, General Nintendo, News | 0 comments
Level-5 isn’t working on any major Professor Layton games as far as we know. Azran Legacy ends the series’ second saga, and closes Layton’s story.
That doesn’t mean Level-5 will be leaving the franchise behind forever. But if it were to return, fans should expect big changes.
When asked if Layton will see another trilogy of titles, Level-5 CEO Akihiro Hino said:
“If a seventh game was to be born one day, it probably won’t be the Layton we know today.”

Rumor: Dragon Quest IX’s “DQVC” taken down
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in DS, News | 1 Comment
Dragon Quest IX’s “DQVC” service has been up and running since the game hit North America in 2010. Three years later, it may have come to an end.
Users are reporting issues with the virtual store, which requires communication with a server in order to function. The list of available items just isn’t updating even though the download data process is successful.
Dragon Quest IX players have said that this problem has popped up a couple of times in the past. But since the DQVC store has been down for some time and the DS game is a few years old, it’s possible that the service could be done for good.

Miyamoto on introducing new control schemes
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, DS, General Nintendo, News, Wii, Wii U | 0 comments
During the last hardware generation, Nintendo was known for its unique control schemes. The Wii introduced motion controls. The DS provided dual-screen gameplay.
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata spoke about the company’s approach to new control types at a recent investor briefing Q&A. His comments came in response to one attendee who expressed disappointment in how these new schemes contributed to the creation of fresh experiences.
Iwata said:
“The Atlus brand and consumer business will continue” amidst parent company bankruptcy, according to official statements

– Official Statement from Atlus
As a big fan of Atlus’ work myself, this is great news. What will happen to the parent company (and where Atlus may end up after their rough patch) is still up in the air, but with any luck things will maintain their current scheduling at the developer themselves.
Pokemon Global Link going offline for Black/White, Black/White 2 in January 2014
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, DS, News | 0 comments
Pokemon Global Link features for the Pokemon Black/White and Black/White 2 games will be going dark on January 14, 2014. A few items, such as the end of Dream World registrations, will end this October – October 12, specifically. Some features including the ability to use GTS and Free Mode in Random Matchups in the game will be kept in tact, however.
Pokemon X/Y will usher in a new Global Link. This is set for release in October – the same time the new 3DS games launch. Players who register with their existing usernames will be able to bring over some achievements and statistics to the new Global Link.
You can find more details about the Global Link shutdown here.
Updated version of Moon for Wii U “would be a lot of work”, but is a possibility
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in DS, News, Wii U | 1 Comment
Renegade Kid will regain the rights to Moon next year. Once that happens, the studio will have full control over the franchise. Sequels will be possible, or even… an updated version of the original, maybe?
When asked if Renegade Kid could consider an upscale/remake version of Moon for Wii U, Renegade Kid co-founder Jools Watsham said the following:
@NE_austin Maybe one day. It would be a lot of work. Not a simple, quick or cheap project – even for a port.
