Cammie Dunaway on the stalling sales of Wii…

“Let’s talk about the U.S., and let’s break it down into the separate platforms. So, speaking first about the Wii–what’s important to understand is that in 2008, we sold 10 million units of the Wii, which was a record for any console ever in history. And so it’s a high mark.

What’s also important to understand is that the pacing of our software this year was quite different than it was in 2008. In 2008, our big titles were released early in the year. And this year’s huge title, released a few weeks ago in October, Wii Fit Plus, is doing quite well. And then arguably, the largest title of the year, New Super Mario Bros. for the Wii, only releases Sunday [November 15]. So we believe that going into the holiday season, consumers will continue to look for the products they see as representing the best value and the most fun…”

“We are always planning to make new games in the Metroid Prime series. Depending on the timing and the situation, we cannot deny the possibility of realising it on DS or DSi.” – Kensuke Tanabe

Even though I’m tremendously excited for Metroid: Other M, I’d be saddened if Corruption was the last Metroid Prime title. I’m definitely glad to hear that the series has a future. And based on Tanabe’s comments, perhaps Nintendo will consider a DSi-exclusive Metroid Prime game for the DSi.

The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks won’t be shipping to store shelves in a couple of weeks. However, fans of the series are probably wondering how the latest handheld Zelda title holds up. The Official Nintendo Magazine has written the first review in issue number 50 and gave it a 91%. In case you are wondering, Phantom Hourglass received a 95% from the magazine back in 2007. While Phantom Hourglass earned a higher score, Fred Dutton, the man who wrote the review of Spirit Tracks in ONM, said that Link’s latest outing “is better than Phantom Hourglass” in a recent roundup of reader Q&A.

The Official Nintendo Magazine answered a ton of reader questions and have published it in one post. We’ve picked out the questions that you guys would probably find most interesting, but you can read the whole thing here

Do they explain why Hyrule is no longer flooded?
Well, they explain why the game is set on land, yes.

Compared to Phantom Hourglass, which makes better use of the DS as a system?
I’d say Spirit Tracks. As well as having to use the stylus to control Link and Zelda, you also use the mic a lot. You’ll need to blow into the mic for Link’s Pan Pipes and the new whirlwhind weapon.

Do any story details overlap with other Zeldas?
Yes, there are recurring characters from both Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass

What’s the storyline like?
This is one of the strong points in my opinion. Out of all the ‘toon Link’ titles, it’s easily the darkest and the Phantom Zelda conceit is a great little twist. Cole is a memorable adversary, there’s plenty of fan service in the narrative and, all in all, it’s a really tight package.

In Robot Rescue you need to release robots trapped in evil computer labyrinths and get them to an exit. All robots are linked together, so when you move one of them, you move them all. Most importantly you have to look out for traps! Missions are full of deadly obstacles, so be careful.
