Imperfections don’t stop Pwnee Studios’ first title from being mesmerizing, addicting, and unmistakably unique.

System: Nintendo Wii U
Release Date: August 1st, 2013
Developer: Pwnee Studios
Publisher: Ubisoft

Author: Austin

It’s not often that a developer’s very first game manages to be both picked up by a big-name publisher and given some fairly significant attention prior to launching, but in the case of Pwnee Studios’ “Cloudberry Kingdom”, that indeed happened. Citing the plump plumber himself as inspiration, Cloudberry attempts to bring players along for a 2D platforming journey comparable to the best of them, and amid some lofty aspirations and interesting gameplay decisions, it’s clear that Pwnee Studios– although perhaps not masters just yet– knows how to put together a solid experience, and one worthy of your time.

Red Rocket was said to be a possibility for Wii U a few months ago. Just recently, the game was officially confirmed for Nintendo’s console.

Castle Pixel posted a backer update on Kickstarter announcing the news, and also mentioned that the team is now an official Wii U developer:

“Lots of exciting new developments since the last time we posted! In Castle Pixel news, we are now officially licensed Wii U developers, so Rex will be coming to a Nintendo Wii U sometime after the official PC game release.”

Nintendo hasn’t announced any pre-order bonuses for Pokemon X/Y, but GameStop may be giving out its own special item. There is at least one report of the retailer handing out a poster, measuring in at over two feet wide.

So now the question is: are all (or many, at least) GameStop locations handing out the bonus? Or was this just a special occurrence?

With enough donations on Kickstarter, Crypt Run could come to Wii U. The “arcade-style medieval fantasy hack ‘n slash” game will make its way to the console if funds reach $20,000.

You can find the official Kickstarter page here. The game itself has been funded, but just six days remain to make a Wii U version possible.

Assassin’s Creed has been an ongoing series since 2007. We’ve seen plenty of games and numerous stories. But even though the franchise continues to expand with more plots, Ubisoft does have some ideas churning when it comes to Assassin’s Creed’s end.

Assassin’s Creed IV game director Ashraf Ismail told Eurogamer:

“We have multiple development teams, then we have the brand team that sits on top and is filled with writers and designers concerned with the series’ overall arc. So there is an overall arc, and each iteration has its place inside this. We have an idea of where the end is, what the end is. But of course Yves [Guillemot, Ubisoft’s overall boss] announced we are a yearly title, we ship one game a year. So depending on the setting, depending on what fans want, we’ve given ourselves room to fit more in this arc. But there is an end.”

Ismail also spoke about how letting different Ubisoft teams handle the for hints to be placed in the different Assassin’s Creed releases:

“We’re now able to seed stuff earlier and earlier in our games. So for example in [AC4] we have Edward, who was seeded in AC3. But there’s a lot more stuff in our game that is hinting at other possibilities.”

E.X. Troopers is one of those games that sounded like it would never head over to North America and Europe. But wait – there is a small glimmer of hope!

Capcom’s Andrew Szymanski has suggested that E.X. Troopers could be localized with the right amount of fan input:

“Whether it’s E.X. Troopers or any other Japan-only games we do or even games we are considering doing, the best thing we can get is input. I don’t need an online petition. I just need people to go on the community sites, e-mail some of our community guys, and say these are the kinds of games we want to see.”

“Whether they are games released overseas that they want in other territories—again what made Strider possible was having that backup. James [Vance] and I can walk into a boardroom and say we want to make Strider, but they’re going to say, ‘Who cares about Strider anymore?’ These people care. You have got to be able to drop that big printout on that table.”

And when it was mentioned how Mega Man fans have been vocal over the past few years, Szymanski said:

“Well, we have to take it one at a time. Strider was the right opportunity at the right time with the right time with the right partner. We are always looking at what we can do down the line and in the future as well. Capcom wants to bring stuff like Strider and take games people know and bring them back to do cool things with them.”

When Christian Svensson was still at Capcom, he said that there were no plans to localize E.X. Troopers. At one point, Svensson noted how a release overseas would require the company “to redo a ton of art in the game, not just do the localization and loc QA.”
