Wii Fit U Direct (9/18/13)
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in Videos, Wii U | 5 Comments
Out of nowhere, Nintendo has published a brand new Direct presentation. Today’s video is a 21-minute broadcast focusing on Wii Fit U. You can find it above.
– Introduction to the Direct is done by the Wii Fit trainer.
– 19 new training activities and the ones from the previous Wii Fit games are included. Makes it 77 now.
– ”We hope that you like the new look of the Wii Fit U trainer, inspires you to perform better.”
– With the Fit Meter, you can now have a better look at the calories you burn.
– It is not a Pedometer, but an Activity meter as it uses a 3-axis accelerometer.
– Pressure sensor can measure changes in altitude. This can make certain that the calories you burn are accurate.
– Fit meter must be attached to the hip, because this lowers measurement error.
– Meter displays calories burned, steps, target calories, elevation difference from home, time, temperature, METs Graph, elevation graph and a graph of calories burned. Data can be transferred through IR port of the GamePad.
– Graphs in the Wii Fit U software will go in accurate detail of your progress now, which is a nice touch.
– After a discussion of graphs, Iwata moves on. If you fail your goal by walking, the game can recommend activities for you.
– There is also a seperate mode called Fit Meter challenge, which uses your steps or altitude for special challenges.
– The Fit meter will be released in Europe on November 1st.
– Iwata wants people to make use of the game’s online stuff. Like announced before, you can make a gym community on Miiverse.
– You make sure that you have similar goals. Will see the progress of others and can compare stats.
– One month free trial of Wii Fit U, if you have bought the previous entries. The downloading begins on November 1st in EU.
– Can use it for month though, as after that it’s useless. If you purchase a Fit Meter, you will be able to continue to play.
– Iwata is aware of the issue with storage and the basic pack. ”Consider getting an external drive!”
– The regular DL version will be released on… February 1st. Packaged version with Meter (and Balance Board if you need it) on December 6 in Europe.
– You can now use the balance board in Wii Street U and it is available right now.
– Iwata reminds us that Wii Street U is available for free until October 31, 2013.
– Finally, Wii Sports is becoming a download software title on Wii U. This title of the software is called Wii Sports Club.
– All the sports have been upgraded to work just with Wii Remote Plus tech.
– There is now also online multiplayer, which was a request from the fans apparently.
– You are playing as a registered member of a club. This can be state or regional.
– There will be communication by special made Miiverse functions. Face off friendly with club members or defeat other clubs.
– The software serves as a hub, from which you can select the sports. You have to purchase all the sports seperately though.
– Available for download on November 7, 2013 in Europe. Tennis and Bowling will be available from the software’s launch.
– Single sports pass will set you back €9.99/£8.99. This allows you to purchase a sport at your own leisure.
– There is also a day pass, which sets you back €1.99/£1.79. This gives you unlimited access to the sports for 24 hours.
– Wii Sports Club is available to play for free in the first 24 hours. That was the presentation!

Activision claims victory over Disney Infinity, says they sold 500,000 starter packs of Skylanders Giants vs. Disney Infinity’s 300,000
Posted on 11 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in News, Wii, Wii U | 0 comments
The recently-released figurine-powered video game Disney Infinity launched with relative success, pushing 300,000 copies of their pricey ‘starter pack’ in its first two weeks on the market. Unfortunately, Activision is trying to quell the excitement about Disney’s success, saying they sold 500,000 copies of their Skylanders Giants starter pack in its first two weeks, about 170% as many copies as Infinity.
Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg says “the best is yet to come”, citing next month’s release of Skylanders: Swap Force as reason to stay interested in the franchise.

Iizuka on why Sonic Lost World 3DS is a 3D game instead of a side-scroller
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, News, Wii U | 0 comments
For a number of years, all of Sonic’s handheld outings were comprised of side-scrolling gameplay. This is changing with Sonic Lost World, which is the first 3D Sonic title on a Nintendo portable.
Sonic Team boss Takashi Iizuka explained ton ONM that a side-scroller “didn’t make sense” because Sonic Lost World’s main idea is a cylindrical world. Because of the 3DS’ added power, 3D worlds are now more possible than before.
“In Colours and Generations the focus was a side-scrolling game. If you look at Lost World, the main concept is a cylindrical world, so it didn’t make sense to do a side view. The 3DS’s extra power makes it the sort of place 3D can be used really well.”
“Even though it’s power powerful than a DS, it still has its limits. It wasn’t easy to get the same levels, but we kept cutting things back until we could get it so that if you looked at it – in a trailer, say – you couldn’t tell which was which. We tried to get the same feel for Wii U and 3DS.”
Scribblenauts Unmasked won’t have Nintendo characters
Posted on 11 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in 3DS, News, Wii U | 1 Comment
Last year, 5th Cell included Nintendo characters and items in Scribblenauts Unlimited. Players could add characters such as Mario and Link to their game, as well as objects like the Super Mushroom and ocarina.
Scribblenauts Unmasked, unfortunately, won’t allow for similar functionality. According to senior producer Caleb Arseneaux, the game lacks Nintendo characters. Nintendo items likely won’t be included either.
Arseneaux said:
“No Nintendo characters made it in this version, mostly because we had so much work to do in order to get over 2,000 objects from the DC Universe into the game!”
