Wii U

Scooby Doo characters aren’t really in Scribblenauts Unlimited. Neither are Mortal Kombat or Batman characters. But by using the game’s object creator, you can bring them all to the Wii U (and PC) version.

Screenshots of the object creator-made Warner Bros. characters can be found above.

Nintendo of Japan will be broadcasting a special Nintendo Direct presentation tomorrow at 8 PM JST / 6 AM ET / 3 AM PT (that’s a bit less than 11 hours from now). It sure is short notice, but it looks like we’ll finally be getting some information on the Wii U’s operating system and Miiverse. Considering that some news outlets have already got their hands on the console, this news is long overdue.

As usual the presentation will be streaming online and we’ll embed the stream before it goes live.

Before putting your brand new Wii U to the test on November 18, you’ll need to download an update. Without it, you won’t be able to access some of the console’s most important features. Once applied, the update will add Miiverse, Wii U Chat, Nintendo TVii, and the eShop to your console.

So it seems that the Wii U boxart may be slightly different in Europe compared to North America. There’s much more blue on the boxart – mainly the spine and back.

Another tidbit coming out of Ubisoft’s financial call today concerns Wii U stock. Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot suggested that the majority will be heading to the US, with other countries fighting over what’s left over.

He said:

“The US seems to be having more machines than the other countries, but that’s the only thing I can say.”

We’ve already been hearing about limited Wii U stock in the UK. I imagine it’ll be limited in other territories as well. I imagine things will even be tight in the US as well.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has more than a positive outlook on Wii U.

While speaking about the new piece of hardware during an investor’s call, Guillemot said Ubisoft was “more and more positive on the launch of the Wii U”. The comments partially stem from strong pre-order demand for the system, which retailers haven’t been able to meet.

Ubisoft is forecasting Wii U titles to take up 6% of the company’s sales in the second half of the company’s financial year. Guillemot said “Wii U will drive the industry next year.”

Shigeru Miyamoto provided a lot of interesting insight into a bunch of different topics in an IGN interview.

There’s obviously lots of Wii U talk. Miyamoto noted how he’s always been “more nervous than excited” for launches, discussed how the console can unify different activities, and talked about using the system with others.

Other topics include Zelda: Four Swords, which Miyamoto feels possesses “great potential to evolve even further from now” thanks to the evolving nature of networks. He also discussed how Nintendo “had continued debate as to the reason why Four Swords could not expand to the audience the way we really hoped it might have.”

Read on below for that and more, including how his thoughts on how Nintendo can keep up with gamers as they grow.

ZombiU has a big twist toward the end of the game. Story director Gabrielle Shrager won’t say what it is, but did note that skilled players may be able to discover it before it’s officially revealed in the game.

“There is a twist. ZombiU is a thriller, but only the most persistent and best-prepared survivors will discover what the twist is before the reveal.”

Given how important the twist is, Shrager hopes that Miiverse won’t lead to spoilers for new players:

“I’m sure the first survivors won’t resist the urge to spill the beans, but I hope others won’t spoil it for themselves.”
