Wii

The Wii Zapper, Wii Wheel, and Wii Balance Board (you can throw MotionPlus in there as well) aren’t the only accessories Nintendo has worked on for their home console. A 2009 patent indicates that they were also experimenting with something called “Wii Light.” It isn’t clear if this is a project that Nintendo is still working on. It sounds interesting, though! Here’s a rundown of what Wii Light is capable of:

– Plug the accessory into the Wii, LEDs show a rainbow of colors
– Red, blue, green LEDs
– Can show 256 colors by turning on different LEDs and adjusting saturation
– Light from the LEDs go through condensing lenses to blend the colors from each LED so the light appears as one colored beam
– Different intensities and patterns (example: blinking)
– Could change color when a bullet hits its mark or if a fist reaches a face
– Games could be programmed to synchronize button presses with light flashes or changing colors
– Music game proposal: Wii Light changes colors to match background music, light can sync to a player’s plastic instrument so players can hear and see how well they’re playing

EA just sent me a press release announcing a new NBA Jam title for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. So, why am I sharing this news here? Well, I thought it was interesting that there is no Wii version in the works.

To be fair, it is being made available for digital download, so it wouldn’t exactly be easy to bring the title to WiiWare considering the service’s file size limit. Then again, EA was planning on launching last year’s title as a retail release for Wii and a digital download for the PS3/360 before cancelling NBA Elite 11. 2010’s reboot was going to be a Wii exclusive, but it later ended up on other platforms. And now the “sequel” won’t even be released for Nintendo’s console.

Just to let you guys know, I’m definitely not bitter. I may very end up purchasing the title on the PS3. Just thought you all would be interested in hearing about this!

RECOVER THE TREASURE OR FACE THE ANGRY DRAGONS

Check out the latest WiiWare and Nintendo DSiWare available for download this Friday!

Performing snowboarding tricks can be a testing experience at the best of times, but add in the pressure of having to recover treasure for a hoard of angry dragons and it becomes a white-knuckle ride. In Trollboarder for Nintendo DSiWare this is the challenge you are presented with. Use your snowboarding skills to win back stolen treasures and fend off the blazing dragons demanding their loot be returned.

Also on Nintendo DSiWare this week, lose yourself in complex 3D puzzles that will amaze and delight in 3D Twist & Match. Puzzling fun that will keep you entertained for hours on end.
