Nintendo has reiterated interest in encouraging indies to bring free-to-play games to the eShop. In an interview with GameSpot, manager of business development Dan Adelman said:

“Free-to-play is something that’s relatively new to us, and we allow it and we’ve got some games in the pipeline that are planning on supporting that.”

Continuing on the idea of new business models we haven’t seen previously, Adelman spoke about Nintendo’s openness when it comes to new ideas:

“Oh, definitely open to ideas. And we’ve already got a long list of things we’d like to support and we’re developing out the back-end to put those hooks in and make it more flexible. Nothing specific to announce right now. But there’s a dedicated team in Japan right now that’s working on building out the functionality, so as we hear about new ideas, new things that people want to do, we want to be able to respond very quickly to those opportunities.”

New downloadable content is coming to Star Wars Pinball. The “Balance of the Force” tables see the arrival of three new themes: Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi, Starfighter Assault and a tribute table based on the notorious Darth Vader.

Here’s the overview of each:

The fate of the galaxy is in your hands! Help the rebellion destroy the Sith and the fearsome Death Star in the Star Wars: Episode VI Return of the Jedi table. Aid Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Chewbacca, Princess Leia, Lando Calrissian, R2-D2, and C-3PO in their fight against the Sith in order to restore peace to the galaxy.

Pay tribute to the Dark Lord of the Sith in a table dedicated to Darth Vader. Use the dark side of the Force to mercilessly pursue the Jedi and Rebel Alliance and face off with Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker.

Support the Rebel Alliance’s Fleet or the Galactic Empire’s Armada, as you lead your side to victory in Star Wars™: Starfighter Assault. The table features legendary Starfighters like the X-wing and TIE Fighter, and iconic vessels like the Millennium Falcon and the Death Star II.

Star Wars Pinball: Balance of the Force content will be available this fall for existing Star Wars Pinball games and Zen Studios pinball platforms on digital stores. You can find the first screenshots above.

Key Features

Child of Light, a platforming RPG, is Ubisoft’s next UbiArt-based project. We finally received confirmation today that the title is heading to the Wii U as an eShop release. The game’s first trailer is posted above. A whole bunch of details that we posted on our sister site last month are located here.

A few months ago, there was talk of Tribute Games becoming a licensed Nintendo developer. Some thought such news could result in a Wii U version of Mercenary Kings. However, while we’ve received official confirmation of Tribute’s dev status, the studio informed us that there aren’t any plans at present to bring the game over to Nintendo’s console.

Tribute co-founder Jean-Francois Major explained: “Considering the size of our team, we have to pick our battles.” For now, the company is focused on completing the PlayStation 4 and PC versions.

“In the end, we pick where we go to next based on where we see getting the biggest audience. A lot of people have been asking for a Vita port, not so much a Wii U one. So it can always help us guide our decisions.”

On the bright side, we were told that as former Game Boy Advance developers, Tribute “would love to go back on Nintendo consoles at some point.”
