Wii

Believe it or not, the PS3 outsold the Wii for the first time since launch in September. This is, of course, based on the September 2009 NPD sales data report. Both Sony and Nintendo applied price cuts during that month. But although Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO of Nintendo of America, is pleased with the Wii price cut numbers thus far, he was quick to point out on the latest episode of GameTrailers TV that the PS3 had a longer period with its drop and therefore “you have to put it in perspective.”

“So far it’s selling really well. We’ve been very pleased with the numbers. We’re really pleased as we get ready for the holiday season…You know, you have to put it in perspective. They had five full weeks of price reduction in their favor, we had the one week. And even with that, the gap was pretty small.”

This information comes from Shigeru Miyamoto, on the latest episode of GameTrailers TV…

“We’re in the middle of finalizing the game, the ideas that we’ve created, almost entirely new courses for Super Mario Galaxy 2. Of course we’ve added some new abilities for Mario. And the goal is to take the system and the gameplay of the original Super Mario Galaxy and turn it into something that’s a little more expanded and offers a great deal of challenge for people that enjoyed that first game.”

The original Super Mario Galaxy provides an incredibly entertaining experience, so following the game’s announcement, I was extremely happy. And if Galaxy 2 was to be more of the same (although I don’t think it will be), just being able to roam around in new levels would be fantastic.

This information comes from Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO of Nintendo of America, on the latest episode of GameTrailers TV…

“You mentioned Zelda, we haven’t committed to Zelda for 2010. That’s what he (Miyamoto hoping to release the game next year) said. So we’ll see how that continues to develop.”

For some reason, I just don’t see Zelda Wii coming out next year. We’ll already have seen two huge Nintendo games – Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M. Besides, Nintendo has delayed their last few Zelda titles quite often.

Over the past few days, there have been a few predictions made about the sales of New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Not too long ago, Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter stated that “it’s gonna shock you how many units” New Super Mario Bros. Wii. GameStop is also anticipating that the title will be a huge success. Tony Bartel, Executive VP of Merchandising and Marketing for GameStop, noted earlier this week that “it’s going to be a strong seller for the holiday.” Reggie Fils-Aime, President and COO of Nintendo of America, offered his own thoughts about Mario Bros. Wii’s sales on the latest episode of GameTrailers TV and said that it will outperform Modern Warfare 2 on one system by the time the January 2010 NPD data rolls by.

“Modern Warfare 2 is on two platforms. On a single platform, absolutely. I say that unequivocally. On one particular platform, I do believe so. You’ve got to give me the entire holiday selling season, so let’s take it all the way through the January NPD data. It’s going to be close. Modern Warfare is a a great title. As a gamer, I look forward to it. The new Modern Warfare, I think is going to be a fantastic title. Not to discount it, it will sell well. Of course I’ll play it. I play all the content out there.”

Press Your Luck® 2010 Edition Now on Store Shelves

SAN FRANCISCO – November 5, 2009 – Ubisoft today announced the official launch of Press Your Luck® 2010 Edition. Currently available for the Nintendo Wii(TM) system, the Nintendo DS(TM) system and Windows-based PC, Press Your Luck® 2010 Edition features single- or multiplayer modes so that more people can get in on the fun and play together. Additionally, the game allows players to design and customize their own personal avatar. The game has been created by Ludia and is licensed by FremantleMedia Enterprises (FME).

Press Your Luck® is a true-to-life revival of the famous game show from the 80’s rendered with a dynamic new design. Players assume the role of one of the three contestants competing to win by answering a series of trivia questions correctly, to earn “spins” on the Big Board of cash and prizes. All of the elements of the original TV game show, including thousands of general knowledge trivia questions to challenge players, are included, as well as animations of the memorably mischievous Whammy character to punctuate the game. Whichever player ends the game with the highest earnings wins, while successfully avoiding the dreaded Whammy or risk losing it all. Additionally, there are a host of special unlockable items to reward players for progress in the game.
