E3 2024 and E3 2025 seemingly cancelled
Original: Based on the results of a meeting from the Los Angeles City Tourism Board of Commissioners, E3 2024 and E3 2025 may both be cancelled.
The accompanying Regular Meeting Packet from June 16 includes a note stating the show has been scrapped over the next couple of years. Originally, E3 2024 and E3 2025 were planned for June 11 and June 3 in their respective years. The ESA hasn’t shared an official comment, but it would be bizarre to include this information if the expo was still on track.
E3 has significantly struggled to gain traction and return since the coronvirus pandemic. E3 2020 was also cancelled, and though it was back in 2021, the entire experience was online-only. 2022 was also cancelled, and while the ESA had big ambitions to return this year, the show was cancelled once again. There’s been some hope that E3 could finally make a comeback next year, but that’s now very much in doubt.
While E3 could be dead, many companies have pivoted to hosting their own events for showcases. Additionally, Summer Game Fest has looked to organize some of the chaos that tends to happen every June, and a small media event has been held in-person over the past couple of years.
We’ll update this post if the ESA goes on the record officially.
Update: The ESA has released a statement saying it has not made any final decisions. Read the full note below.
“ESA is currently in conversation with ESA members and other stakeholders about E3 2024 (and beyond), and no final decisions about the events have been made at this time.”
