Another interesting category is the kanji that would express the year 2014. ??(one meaning is “bewitching”; it appears in the name of Youkai Watch as “you”) was a popular choice. Also ? (one meaning is “returning”) was common. Arguments included that some old masterpieces are revived and Dragon Quest comes back to PlayStation. Some other frequent choices were ??(“progressing”), ? (“next”) and?? (“New”), partly as a response for the new hardware (PS4, Xbox One and New Nintendo 3DS).
