Gulf War Game Boy Nintendo NY store retired

New reports have indicated that the well-known Gulf War Game Boy stationed at Nintendo NY has been retired.

If you’ve been to the store over the years, one of the first things you probably saw was the deteriorated handheld. Even though it was damaged in a bombing during the Gulf War, this particular Game Boy was still actually in working condition. However, it is no longer on display. Those hoping to check it out for themselves in person will no longer be able to do so.

Staff at the Nintendo NY store have confirmed that it was returned to Nintendo’s headquarters in Redmond, Washington. Twitter user VGArtAndTidbits passed along the news. VGArtAndTidbits says that the screen isn’t “what it used to be,” but believes that’s because it was regularly on for about three decades.

Nintendo NY is Nintendo’s only public store in the United States. You can of course buy games including the latest ones for Switch – as well as other items like merchandise and clothing – but it’s also a hub for fans. Nintendo has held various events over the years to celebrate new launches, and many often stop by to watch the latest Nintendo Direct as it happens with others. Also, aside from the Gulf War Game Boy, Nintendo NY has other displays such as amiibo – not to mention playable titles as well.

Nintendo NY began as The Pokemon Center in 2001. At the start of 2005, it transformed into Nintendo World. The store underwent renovations in 2016 and became Nintendo NY.
