[Let’s Talk] The Game Awards 2025 reactions

Posted on December 13, 2025 by (@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, Let's Talk, Switch, Switch 2

The Game Awards 2025 happened this week, which acts as the last major gaming event of the year. While part of the show was indeed about awards, several announcements were made.

If you’re a Nintendo Switch 2 owner, there was actually a good bit of news here. We found out about Mega Man: Dual Override, Orbitals, Pragmata, Phasmophobia, and Out of Words. We also got new looks at Resident Evil Requiem and LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight.

Now that The Game Awards are over, what’d you think of the event? What was your favorite announcement? Let us know in the comments.

Highlights from last week’s topic: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond impressions

Myles can be annoying. But he’s not nearly as bad as the preview articles were going on about. I’ve met the second companion and he does an excellent job of establishing his character and then getting out of the way. Hopefully the other companions are similar. The desert hub is also alright. It feels a little pointless, but riding around is very zen and calming. I understand the arguments that neither are very “Metroid,” though I don’t think either are so detrimental that they really damage the experience.

When you’re actually in a level and doing Metroid things, the experience is excellent. It’s a little more linear than I’d like but the vibes are immaculate. Currently in the Ice Belt lab and the mounting sense of dread as I go deeper is so so so good. The way the music builds as you press forward and also the way it changes into discordant noise when you approach one of the open stasis pods is a really cool touch and ratchets the tension like crazy. Looking forward to seeing what else is in store.

I get why it’s the lowest scoring one in the series. When it’s a Metroid Prime game, it’s fantastic: The biomes all look incredible, the gameplay is very solid, the bosses are great and the music is great as well. The puzzles are on the easier side, sadly, but other than that – it’s a very good Metroid Prime game… I just wish Retro would’ve allowed it to be a Metroid Prime game more.

The “Hyrule field” aspect of the game with Vi-O-La isn’t working as good as it should, the companions are not adding anything of value to the adventure and they are both creating a Prime game that feels like it’s trying to cater to a broader audience by adding “fluff” instead of advancing the formula a bit.

I’m having a ton of fun, but it’s not on par with the first trilogy.

Logical Q

It’s decent so far, nothing special. The level design and exploration feels a bit simple compared to the previous 3 (all 3 of which I’ve replayed within the last 4 years). Mechanically it feels pretty good at least. With all the old hits and new additions giving a few new creative ways to solve puzzles or beat bosses.

Glad they realised a minimum 60fps was an important thing to target. I’m playing in 120fps mode on my OLED so while it feels good to play, the lower resolution and overall not great texture quality do hurt it a bit visually.

Other than the simplicity of the game, the bike and traditional open world are the most detrimental things to the entire game. And I say this as a biker. Obviously they both exist to justify each other but it was definitely not needed at all and only crammed in as a gimmick to pad out the game. Think the Batmobile in Arkham Knight but in a MGS5 tier open world (aka the most boring and empty open world ever made).

Definitely not as good as Prime 1 or 2 but it trades blows with 3 for overall ranking. Not sure if it’s the 3rd best of the 4, or the worst of the 4. Will need time to reflect on it after I finish (nearly done with it I think). The amiibo thing also hurts the game on principle too. €60 physical copy though.
