More changes to the Western version of Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE was playable at PAX East last weekend and we got quite a bit of video footage of the Western version thanks to that.
The game’s trailer that was shown in the last Nintendo Direct already showed a change made to a character’s outfit in the localized version; Nintendo recently commented on the game’s localization. Gameplay footage from PAX has confirmed several other changes.
First of all, the age of some characters was changed – Itsuki, Tsubasa and Touma are now 18 years old instead of 17. Interestingly, since Tsubasa actually announces her age in a scene in the game, a line which is heard in a couple of the game’s trailers (“??????17???!” – “I’m Oribe Tsubasa and I’m 17 years old!”), this would’ve produced a problem for those playing the Western version who can understand Japanese – they would’ve heard Tsubasa say she’s 17 years old despite the translated text stating that she’s 18 (eternally 17 I guess). Instead, Nintendo actually got Inori Minase, Tsubasa’s voice actress, to re-record that line (at 8;44 in the linked video:”??????18???!” – “I’m Oribe Tsubasa and I’m 18 years old!”), a practice that is not common at all.
Next, one of the scenes that can play when you start a battle show that a change has been made to one of Tsubasa’s outfits. It’s hard to tell conclusively since the lower image is not from direct feed footage, but it seems like Tsubasa left her panties in the drawer in the Western version and instead chose to wear shorts / spats under her skirt.
Finally, it seems like a change has been made to one of the game’s dungeons. In the Japanese version, the dungeon dealt with a gravure idol and paparazzi. In the Western version, photos of the girl displayed in the dungeon show that she wears less revealing clothing, suggesting she might just be a regular model in that version. Currently it’s not known if this will result in any changes to the game’s story.
