Nintendo not planning Wii price cut anytime soon, high hopes for 3DS as a movie player

This information comes from Satoru Iwata…

“Of course, we cannot say it will never happen, but we are not thinking of it for the near future. Those who really wanted it would have already bought it so now we need to reach those who considered it but never got around to buying it.”

“Hopes are high for the 3DS as the first device that can show 3-D movies to reach a mass market.”

Wii sales haven’t been too bad in the United States, but they’ve clearly fallen off in Japan. It’s possible that the Super Mario Bros. console will sustain sales a bit, but I’m not too sure how effective that will be in the long run. Unlike last year, Nintendo doesn’t have a huge title for the holidays – As much as I think Donkey Kong Country Returns will be a great product, I’m not expecting its sales to come anywhere close to New Super Mario Bros. Wii.
