Outlast 2 Switch tech analysis and PS4 comparison

Red Barrels brought Outlast 2 to Switch this week. In a new video, Digital Foundry takes a closer look at the port and compares it to the PlayStation 4 version.

Regarding resolution, Outlast 2 runs at 1008p (yes, not 1080p) when docked. For portable play, it’s the standard 720p. Frame rate comes in at 30 FPS in both modes.

Outlast 2’s texture quality on Switch isn’t quite up to the standards of the PlayStation 4 version. The same also goes for skin shaders, along with ambient occlusion and shadow resolution. However, these differences aren’t immediately noticeable.

One reason Switch holds up so well is because much of the game is set at night – in dark areas. Moreover, your view is often through a camcorder.

Outlast 2 is almost locked at 30 frames per second as previously mentioned. In that case, the only noticeable difference is that the PlayStation 4 version runs at 60 FPS.
