Rocket League Switch tech analysis
Digital Foundry has returned with a new technical analysis of a Switch game. For its latest investigation, Rocket League is the focus.
Having Rocket League run at 60 frames per second was the top priority. As a result, the team needed to make some compromises to the visuals.
It’s unclear if Digital Foundry’s analysis was done before the latest patch, but the maximum resolution is 720p. But due to a dynamic resolution, it can go much lower than that. When playing docked, things can look a bit blurrier compared to portable mode due to the use of an anti-aliasing effect.
Compared to the PlayStation 4 version, texture filtering quality has been scaled back. Light shafts are missing, and a grass shader effect in the menu isn’t in place during gameplay. It’s also worth noting that portable mode removes shadows.
Going back to frame rate, Rocket League manages to hit 60 FPS for the most part. However, the one major downside is splitscreen multiplayer. During these sessions, the action can drop to around 45 FPS.
