Samurai Warriors 5

New Samurai Warriors 5 details and screenshots have surfaced from the official website. Today’s update covers the game’s story, system, and a few characters: Nagamasa Azai, Toshiie Maeda, Oichi, and Tadakatsu Honda.

Here’s the full roundup:

Story

This story takes place during the Sengoku period, during which an inverted social order started to extend all across Japan.

As war rages throughout the Sengoku period, several influential figures appear across Japan seeking to reign supreme over these turbulent times.

Among those figures, the great daimyo, Yoshimoto Imagawa, dispatched his troops to escort the minor daimyo of the neighboring nation—Ieyasu Tokugawa—as a hostage. While everyone was assessing the situation, there was one person watching all of this occur from high above.

That person was Nobunaga Oda.

This story begins with Nobunaga, along with his childhood friend Toshiie Maeda, as they make a raid on the Imagawa Army in order to rescue Ieyasu.

Systems

Hyper Attack

The Hyper Attack is an action that allows you to travel a great distance while attacking your enemies. As this attack allows you to round up your enemies and can be connected to a standard attack, it acts as the starting point for any battle.

Ultimate Skill

Ultimate Skills are incredibly powerful actions that can be used during battle, depleting your gauge in the process.

Four types of Ultimate Skills can be equipped at any one time. As the attack power, range of the attack’s effect, and the type of enemy it is effective against will vary depending on the Ultimate Skill, it is important to use the right combination of skills based on the battlefield or your personal preferences.

In addition, you can cancel the action you are performing by using an Ultimate Skill, making this an action you can use to continue combos.

Depending on the Ultimate Skill, there may be a cool down time during which you cannot use the skill again until this period ends.

Pulse

An Ultimate Skill suited for continuing combos. You can connect Pulse Ultimate Skills and Musou Attacks. You can also use this Ultimate Skill to connect standard attacks and Power Attacks to Pulse Ultimate Skills.

Recuperation

Ultimate Skills can increase your attack power or defense, or recharge your Musou Gauge. The “Recuperation” Ultimate Skill will refill your Musou Gauge.

Avalanche

The “Avalanche” Ultimate Skill allows you to thrust your Great Spear into the earth to create a shockwave that stuns nearby enemies.

Relentless Storm

The “Relentless Storm” Ultimate Skill allows you to throw the enemy before you into the air and beat them to a pulp, then bring them down to the ground with a strike from your Great Spear. (Toshiie Maeda Exclusive Ultimate Skill.)

Characters

Nagamasa Azai

The daimyo who governs Kitaōmi.

A righteous and brave young man. Despite his youth, he has a strong sense of responsibility as the head of his family, and is well trusted by his retainers and allies. While fighting alongside the Asakura family, he meets Mitsuhide.

Toshiie Maeda

The Oda family’s retainer.

While he is somewhat clumsy, he’s a very caring and passionate man. He has been a friend of his lord, Nobunaga, since they were very young, and they frequently took part in mischief during their youth. Due to his bravery he is known as the “Mighty Spear Mataza” and uses his strength to support Nobunaga.

Oichi

Nobunaga’s younger sister.

She’s a young woman who is innocent in nature but strong at heart, which is to be expected from the daughter of a warrior family. She resents that she lives during a troubled time period where life’s problems are solved through brute strength. While she respects her brother Nobunaga, she’s growing tired of his consistent rash actions.

Tadakatsu Honda

The Tokugawa family’s retainer.

He is both Ieyasu’s friend and his right-hand man. Compared to Ieyasu, he is rather wild and hot-blooded, and often uses forceful statements and actions to encourage and support Ieyasu.

Samurai Warriors 5 launches for Switch in Japan on June 24. It will follow on July 27 in the west.
