Cosmochoria

The Wii U version of Cosmochoria is in serious trouble. In a Kickstarter update, creator Nate Schmold explained that he has experienced issues getting the game to run through Construct 2 on the Nintendo Web Framework.

Ultimately, Cosmochoria has been put on hold for Wii U, though it hasn’t been cancelled entirely. “The goal is to focus all my efforts on making Cosmochoria as extraordinarily dope as I can for the full launch and work towards using a successful launch as a platform to form relationships with either an outside publisher or development team in order to make a Wii U port a possibility,” Schmold wrote.

Those who backed Cosmochoria specifically for the Wii U version are being given an opportunity to request a refund. Pledges can also be transferred to the PC version.

The Wii U port of the Kickstarted space shooter Cosmochoria is being held up by a number of issues, which developer Nate Schmold elaborates on in a recent Kickstarter update. The problems largely involve the difficulties in porting the game from Construct 2 to Nintendo Web Framework and poor performance as a result. This isn’t the first time a Wii U developer has had these problems – the development of Team Notion’s Super Ubie Island was also delayed by the need to rebuild the game in Unity.

The Wii U version of Cosmochoria was tentatively slated for an early 2015 release, but as Schmold will need to re-code the game in another engine this will likely be pushed back – if this version is even released at all. Schmold promised Kickstarter backers that those requesting the Wii U version will have their pledges refunded if the game is cancelled and left it to them to determine its fate. The Kickstarter-funded indie title Cosmochoria is tentatively slated to launch on Wii U early next year.

Creator Nate Schmold outlined plans for the eShop release in a Kickstarter update, noting that he’ll likely concentrate on this version once “the game is mostly done”.

He said:

I will be testing the Wii U starting this summer once i have a more stable build with some additional optimizations in place. Once the dev kit arrives I’ll be sharing / streaming the progress of my testing, but chances are I wont be able to fully focus on the Wii U dev until the game is mostly done, as I’d first need the full features of the game implemented before I can start tying things to the Wii U control schemes etc. Basically anything i do regarding the Wii U dev i’ll be sure to post about it, though – for those that are interested. 🙂
