Today’s new screenshot of Super Smash Bros. has revealed a brand new stage. The stage is Fire Emblem themed and is shown off by Ike and Marth. Here is what Sakurai had to say about it on Miiverse along with a second screenshot:

We’ve added a familiar setting from the Fire Emblem series, the Coliseum. In the original game, this place is filled with both hope and despair. There is machinery in the ground that activates variable platforms.

Along with today’s screenshot, Sakurai passed along the following message on Miiverse:

Brewster brings The Roost back to Smash Bros. Nothing beats watching a battle of famous fighters with a freshly brewed cup of coffee.

Nintendo has provided a first look at some sort of GameCube controller adapter for Wii U in its “Super Smash Bros. Invitational @ E3 2014” video.

The company said in a follow-up tweet that the new Super Smash Bros. will be playable with all GameCube controllers:

Nintendo has not yet specified when the adapter will be available, and how it will be distributed. More information soon hopefully!

Just a few days ago, rumors circulated of Super Smash Bros. for Wii U incorporating NFC functionality. This was based on a comment made by Nintendo France general director Stephan Bole, who seemed to confirm the news while speaking with French outlet Le Figaro (since removed from the interview by the way).

Unsurprisingly, Nintendo is keeping quiet about the situation. When asked to comment on the rumor, a company spokesperson from the UK told CVG:

“On 8th May 2014, Mr Iwata announced the decision for Nintendo to release character figurines with built-in NFC functionality that are compatible with video games starting from this year-end sales season. There has, however, not been any specific announcements regarding which software titles for Nintendo platforms will use this functionality. We have no other announcements to make at this time.”

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U might be incorporating NFC functionality, new comments from Nintendo France general director Stephan Bole suggest. Bole told Le Figaro in an interview, “The NFC will be used in the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros.” While the interview is certainly trustworthy, we’ll need an official announcement before we can say this is confirmed.

Nintendo has shared new details about its plans for the Super Smash Bros. Invitational, which will be hosted at this year’s E3.

The company will be inviting 3,000 people to watch the tournament in-person. Additionally, the entire event will be live-streamed on Twitch’s E3 channel and Nintendo’s Twitch channel.

Those who dress up as their favorite Super Smash Bros. characters could be selected for priority seating in front of the stage. Since the tournament will be photographed and filmed, the best costumes may appear on Twitch and Nintendo’s YouTube channel.

Here’s the full breakdown of information regarding Super Smash Bros. Invitational – set for Tuesday, June 10th:

9:30 a.m.: Wristband distribution begins at NOKIA Plaza at L.A. LIVE, 777 Chick Hearn Court in Los Angeles.
