The Legend of Zelda movie is seeing a delay, Nintendo just announced. The film will now hit theaters on May 7, 2027.

Nintendo had announced earlier in the year that the film was on track for March 26, 2027. However, now we know that it will take a bit longer than anticipated. The Legend of Zelda creator Shigeru Miyamoto, writing on social media, that the change in release date was made due to “production reasons”. He added that the team “will take the extra time to make the film as good as it can be.”

The full statement from Miyamoto about the Zelda movie delay reads:

“This is Miyamoto. For production reasons, we are changing the release date of the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda to May 7, 2027. It will be some weeks later than the release timing we originally announced, and we will take the extra time to make the film as good as it can be. Thank you for your patience.”

There’s still very little known about the upcoming movie. We have a few bit of details surrounding the production, including that Wes Ball is directing. But other critical details, including the cast and the plot, have yet to be revealed.

Nintendo originally announced the live-action movie for The Legend of Zelda in November 2023.
