[Wii Send-Off] The Top Ten Best Soundtracks of Wii Games

Posted on November 9, 2012 by (@NE_Austin) in Features, Wii

10. Tatsunoko vs. Capcom

As one of the games on this list whose soundtrack I had not heard before today, it would have been hard for me to come up with a tiny paragraph about it without first giving some of the tracks a listen! I don’t think any game on the Wii (at least not in North America/Europe) so perfectly encompasses the high-octane, DDR-fueled, Japanese techno-pop culture as well as Tatsunoko vs. Capcom does. Listening to this soundtrack now actually makes me want to go out and buy the game! Too bad it just stopped production

9. Metroid Prime 3

I admit, I don’t personally understand the hype behind the Metroid Prime soundtracks, but when you take into account how absurdly iconic “that Metroid sound” is, it’s hard not to appreciate the unique atmosphere that they bring to the table– and Metroid Prime 3: Corruption was no exception. While I honestly could not sing you a single tune from the game (short of the main theme, whose fake-choir synth sound will forever be ingrained within my skull), listening back on a few tracks reminds me just why the game should make this list.

8. Kirby’s Epic Yarn

Oh man, this game again!? This game must be on four different lists I’m writing up! I guess it makes sense here given the utterly charming soundtrack that accompanies Kirby’s adventures through cloth-land. Even the most hardened souls must admit that listening to just a bit of this game’s soundtrack softens their resolve for a moment. Take a listen above.

7. The Last Story

Ah yes, The Last Story. One of the three games that Nintendo refused for so long to localize, and then when they finally did it was met with acclaim among not just the RPG crowds, but many gaming aficionados around the world. With a soundtrack composed by industry legend Nobuo Uematsu, it’s no surprise that it holds a spot on this list. I’ve not played the game myself, but listening to this utterly stunning song truly makes me wish I had the money to buy it. Darn you, Wii U!
