Yakuza boss hesitant to put the series on Switch, feels they’re a mismatch

Yakuza Switch

Despite some fans hoping it would happen, the Yakuza series has stayed off Switch. That doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon, with executive producer and Ryu Ga Gotoku studio head Masayoshi Yokoyama now weighing in.

Yokoyama spoke with GameSpot about the situation, explaining that the two are a mismatch. He feels Switch is considered to be more family-friendly in contrast to the underground attitude of the Yakuza series.

Yokoyama stated:

“Do we want to put a title like this where we’re going around and picking a fight with the world and doing all this Yakuza stuff, on a Switch. We still kind of think of ourselves as people of the night world, right? We don’t want to be like walking around the day with everybody else. Like for us, it’s kind of showing this kind of underground feeling. I think the underground kind of feeling is what we want to do.”

Only two Yakuza games have ever appeared on a Nintendo console – those being Yakuza 1 and 2 for Wii U. Furthermore, they were only released in Japan.
