    Ouch at PS4. 🙂

    Hahahahahahahahahaha Xbox One.

  • Stuart

That was a big fall for everyone. Well,it was the end of the Golden Week so it was expected.

    • nemo37

So I guess Japan is experiencing its January (ie the month after the holidays where consumer product sales fall through the roof)

  • awng781

Post-Golden week sales have been terrible in Japan for the last 3-4 years.

  • Tlozbj

Well everything fell off a cliff this week o.O I wonder if Switch stock survived this week, or if this is what Nintendo sended, to focus this month on the West

  • nemo37

I have a feeling the Switch is not supply constrained at this point in Japan, unless Nintendo reduced shipments in anticipation for the post-golden week crash. Does anyone have info on the supply side of things?

Also, these console sales are overall very concerning to me. What were sales like after Golden Week in previous years? Sales seem to be down between 40-50 % for most of these systems compared to the previous week.

    • Tlozbj

Wondering that too, though goijg by Amazon Japan, stock is still bad, as scalpers/3rd party sellers are selling by 40k yen, which is 10k yen above MSRP

      • nemo37

Yep, based on the very helpful source andyva posted in reply to my comment, it appears to be supply constrained at retail in Japan.

    • andyva

It’s actually still sold out in Japan. They get shipments every week and they sell out in less than 20 minutes. Will probably keep having stock issues for a while, especially if Nintendo keeps up with this abysmal supply.

Here you can check the stock in Japan: https://gamewith.jp/gamedb/article/show/43620?from=ios

      • nemo37

Thank you very much for the source. As of today, it appears to be supply constrained at retail (both in online and physical stores) in Japan. I guess Nintendo is diverting some of the stock to other countries in lieu of the post-Golden Week sales slump.

        • R.Z.

So Nintendo is just artistically shaping that sales curve because they feel like it ?
“End of golden week ? Let’s have a bit of a drop there.
          Reduce shipments by 20 k !!!”
          That’s pretty crazy.
Maybe they are doing it to still appear sold out though.
I can’t wait to see how it sells once the shipments finally meet demand.

          • nemo37

Well no they cannot do it on the fly. But they can (and like most other tech companies, they actually have to) plan sales in advance. Apple, for example, dramatically increases production for iPhones close to the holidays period, but then they dramatically reduce production for the first and second quarters because those two quarters have the least sales. Most successful businesses engage in such practices because demand varies through out the year and it costs a lot of money to store inventory (I used Apple in the example above as opposed to another company, because Apple is a leader in the industry with regards to inventory turnovers; and part of that comes from very strict supply controls).

  • kurodo

yup, Vita is dead. Japanese developers should drop a once and get all aboard of Switch train!

    • Stuart

You know,I was afraid to say that sooner, but it really looks like Switch is eating some of the Vita sales. If Vita loses Japan the console is pretty much done, it was the last territory it still sells.

    • theFooFighter

Yeah I’m honestly just now noticing this. The vita has been stuck at 5k for a while and at this point I doubt there’s anything Sony can do to save it

    • hi v3.0

About time that it dies in Japan RIP

  • link2metroid

And so begins the end of Switch.

    • Hermione Granger

STFU. Switch is 1st. Crapstation 4 is dead. below 15K LOL

      • DespyCL

Yet the ps4 is the best selling current (or old due to the switch being released mid gen) gen console… And is still selling a lot arround the world and a lot of games are still coming to it, so…

        • TDude73

Actually, the PS4 Pro and Xbox One S are mid-gen video game systems. The Nintendo Switch is a NEW generation video game system– home/portable gaming system.

          • DespyCL

No no, i didnt mean the switch is mid gen, it’s new gen. What i tried to say is that the switch was released in the midle of the transition between current and new gen.

      • Hermione Granger

        you tell em

    • You do realize that it was just a bad sales week in general and not just for Switch, right?

      • link2metroid

It shouldn’t apply to Switch. It’s a new “console”.

        • Stuart

If that was the case, the PS4 should be doomed for selling around 10k after a month after launch in Japan.

          • awng781

The PS4 was selling ~5k per week a few months after its launch in Japan. Those were some terrible times for Sony in Japan.

        • nemo37

You sure did not complain about the PS4’s initial sales in Japan (back when it was, in your own words, a new console and sold around 7k weekly). Could it be because of double standards?

      • Jon Turner

That and the Switch is still pretty much sold out, even in Japan.

    • awng781

“…but if sales are bad then, oh it’s because there’s not enough supply.”

There actually isn’t enough supply (and because post Golden Week sales are almost always terrible).

    • nemo37

lol…says the guy that went around pretending stock problems did not exist and tried to dismiss good sales, and now is dismissing the fact that Switch is still the top selling system in Japan and everyone else dropped as well.

      • awng781

“If the Switch isn’t selling 105 gajibillion thousand units per week, it’s failing!!”
