God dammit. They’re porting the scripted “Tekken” engine game to the Switch. I guess some will be happy about it.

Own it on WiiU and didn’t enjoy it all that much so gonna pass.

“Sorry about Tekken 7, guys” – Bandai Namco

Like I said, way too early for a mainline Pokemon game to come to Switch. Pokemon doesn’t put main games onto systems until their install base is substantial. Not surprised at all by this.

Now let’s hope we can get beyond this “Pokemon Stars” fanhype and get some realistic predictions for E3.

    • JasonBall

YOU said there would be no new mainline game at all. Next time don’t be so cocky, sometimes it pays off but when it doesn’t you look stupid.

      • Mark

Wow, angry much? Please don’t take it out on me. I’m frustrated at Eurogamer for having started this whole “Sun and Moon on Switch” rumor, and the fact that this announcement is now a disappointment instead of excitement. And no, I didn’t predict a “Sun/Moon 2” reveal, (I had anticipated it being about mobile and about the side-games) but it’s no surprise for them to put a sequel on the 3DS; this pretty much mirrors Black and White 2 being released on the DS. It would just be totally out of character for Pokémon to fully support a console this early, and -that- was my prediction.

I do, however, anticipate an announcement in summer 2018 talking about the next generation, kind of similar to X and Y, with a steady trickle of info until a fall release. With the following that Switch is getting, along with the job positions that the Pokémon Company has been hiring for and the fact that the Pokémon company is releasing nothing but mobile games, ports, and remasters this year, I’m sure it’s in development.

At least there was something for the Switch lol

  • Coonfoot

    Can’t say I didn’t see this coming.

As aside note, Decidueye is one of my most wanted new fighters for the next Super Smash Bros., but since we have no idea when/if that’ll happen, having it in Pokken Tournament DX is the next best thing for me.

  • RoadyMike

If this was all they were gonna show in those 8 mins, this would’ve been the first PokeDirect that disappointed me. Never got into Pokken

That god it only got better and better

  • R.Z.

    Expected.
It’s cool that they evacuated the news before E3, but knowing Nitendo that won’t stop them from making a 5 minutes focus at the E3 spotlight.

  • Tlink7

    Whewie more ports

  • Locky Mavo

it seemed more tekken-like i noticed. didn’t have the dramatic camera swing and 2 player mode can be played on one screen. i enjoyed pokken on wii u, so i’ll probably grab it again. seems like this is the year of fighters.

  • Bruno_Ostara

Meh, not into this right now. They just held back releasing the dlc characters on Wii U to do this. I saw it coming, but cannot respect this move. This game only have one real new character (a cool one, but still), the other are characters that should have been in the wii u version for ages but they held back to sell it again for 60 dolars. Thats a really awful move to do. Mario Kart 8 deluxe at least had some new characters, modes, better resolution. This is just pokken with one new character and one new mode. If they say that there will be more characters down the line its okay, if they don’t thats one of the most disrespectful thing nintendo ever did.

    • carlos holguin holguin

i think we will get more fighters and stages.. we are like 4 months away from its release so take it easy

      • Bruno_Ostara

I don’t believe this untill they show us. The game already have a cover art with all the fighters. They said nothing about releasing more characters and they left wii u players with nothing after launch. I’m justo not going to trust them on making this one good

        • carlos holguin holguin

yeah i kind of agree with you.. i never bought pokken for wii u but nintendo always have some surprises for us.. lets wait and see.

          • Bruno_Ostara

I’m usually optimist with nintendo. I’m really on board with almost everything they do, I’m not even mad about no mainline game on switch because it really makes no sense right no to do this. The Switch is having distribution problems and pokemon have a huge competitive scene going on, they cant afford to launch a mainline game in a console like this. But this pokken announcement was just plain awful for people who have it on wii u. And I KNOW it will be full price and nothing for Wii U owners.

          • heavenshitman1

I think a mainline game is way overdue, and Switch is the best system for it yet.
Even if Pokemon released today, there’s already enough Switches (3+ mil and climbing fast) out there to make the game financially successful.
I’m as hardcore a Nintendo loyalist gets, re-bought MK8 Switch.
Pokken Tournament will def be a better game on Switch, but even I’m umming about it.

But Pokemon GO proves, nearly the entire world of gamers would pay attention to an RPG (even if its a slightly different one).

My predictions for Pokken Tournament sales are not high.

I honestly think that Pokken Tournaments real time fighting engine, should act as a basis for the Pokemon combat encounters in a mainline game,
not be a game on its own.

And now Im ranting too much, Im upset lol, back to work

          • Bruno_Ostara

There’s not enough switches for a mainline pokemon game. It would be successful, for sure. But the competitive scene for this game is huge, not everyone have access to a switch right now with all the distribution problems, they can’t have a VGC tournament for a pokemon game with the switch, it would be way too small cause people just don’t have it yet. And the pokemon company does take their competitive scene seriously. I’m all for a pokemon game on the switch, but I doubt we will see it before switch sells 10 million or more. They need to be sure that every player will be able to find a switch to buy or will have one already

          • heavenshitman1

Yeah but surely if they announce a game now with even as little as a 6 month wait, you’d just about have your 10 mil.
Or if they took more time, some projections are suggesting 20 mil by age 1 for Switch

          • Evan Gustavson

            I disagree.
Turn based RPGs are a dying breed as is it is. I feel the tile based gameplay of PMD would be a better fit for the mainline combat system, and the existing stats and mechanics would translate better into the new gameplay direction if that was the direction it went in.

          • heavenshitman1

Pokemon doesn’t seem to have been dying much. But it doesn’t matter, re-rig the game however they see fit, but get it on a home console.
I remember a younger cousin of mine used to come round whenever and we played the N64 spin off, Collsum or whatever.
Uber fun we had together with its simpe minigames and limited game scope (basically if i remember correctly, the game was a graphic upgrade for gameboy owners to throw their Pokemon into).
But if that game was a full adventure, our fun woulda been boosted to epic levels.

The fact that ‘Pokemon not being on Switch’ is even a media headline proves that’s because it’s what everyone wants

          • Evan Gustavson

Umm, you misenterpreted what I said.
Turn based RPGs as a genre is dying, not Pokemon’s sales.
Apart from Pokemon, what was the last new Turn-based RPG you’ve ever played or heard about?
Can’t think of one in recent memory, can you?

          • RoadyMike

I say it should be more real time based, like Pokepark or even pokken, but with a mix of Xenoblade’s Arts system so you don’t go spamming the same move

          • Evan Gustavson

            That’s stupid.
In a game like Pokémon, there is no universal win button.
All locking people out of spamming, say, Earthquake would do is encourage people to make bad, poorly balanced teams.
EQ spam is one of a few reasons mono-electric teams can’t function.

To the people who are salty.

EDIT: Okay what the hell Disqus.

    • Fandangle

Salty about what? About how the Switch is literally just getting the Wii U’s leftovers but with paid online?

      • That sounded like salt

        • Fandangle

Maybe if you’re looking at it through a biased lens.

          • Ardisan

            Eh, you’re kinda right.

  • Bilal Prince-Ali

Nintendo Nintendoing yet again.. this company is actually hilarious man ahah lool…
Who the HELL asked for Pokken Tournament and i bloody own this game on my Wii U…. I dont know how you Nintendo fanboys aren’t annoyed by all of this.

    • Ninty Kad

Um… talk to the Pokemon company, Not nintendo…

Pokken was a given my dude

      • Bilal Prince-Ali

these publishers can apply pressure… you do know that right..? It’s sorta one of the jobs as a publisher..?

        • Ninty Kad

The Main issue with Pokken was being on the Wii U. Yes, You got the game, but a lot of other people didn’t. Because a lot of people didn’t get a wii u just to play the game. Now that Nintendo has a system people are very interested in and is sell, it would be easier to just port an updated version of this game too. I’d buy it.

          • Bilal Prince-Ali

i think all good games deserve the support and hopefully Pokken will get it.. but the truth still stands that people wanted Pokemon not Pokken on the switch.

          • Ardisan

I didn’t want any of them tbh, not a big pokemon person. It was pretty obvious that the direct was going to involve Pokken. I am still planning on getting it but if its 50-60$ its a easy skip just like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

          • Bilal Prince-Ali

Nintendo seems to be charging crazy prices for their games… lets just hope for a fair RRP and Mario Kart is amazing man.

          • Ardisan

Already have it on my WiiU

          • Ninty Kad

People are asking too much imo for Pokemon on the Switch RIGHT NOW. if two years have passed then yeah, It be understandable to expect a main series Pokemon on switch. But right now, where Nintendo is having a hard keep up with demand right now, is shooting yourself in the foot. The Pokemon Company has NEVER jumped on new hardware in it’s first year, especially in the middle of the generation. It’s a pattern the TPC has done for years and it ain’t gonna stop…

          • Bilal Prince-Ali

Nintendo are infamous for undersupplying…. simple… secondly you think the Switch came out of no where..? Nintendo have shown their hardware to their developers for years.. so for them to stlll be THIS far behind is simply stupid…

          • Ninty Kad

Well, This time it’s not nintendo fault. Blame Apple, they are using the same components found in the Switch. And they are battling it out to get those parts…

  • Addy

Well someone should pick up the phone because I fudging called it.

  • I’m excited
    Heck to you all

    • Ardisan

Yeah, this was the best part of the Direct imo. Also nice Sailor Gardevoir avatar.

  • Quantity of Quality

As usual, the Underpowered Overpriced business model…. chaching! chaching!

    • Ninty Kad

      ???

    • What’s the point of communicating if your words don’t make sense

  • TalesOfBS

    Disgusting, non stop milking.

    • RoadyMike

      Pokemon? Milked? Naaw, couldn’t be

      • TalesOfBS

Not about Pokemon itself, i meant Nintendo milking a crappy spinoff so
bad that arcades kicked it out in Japan because nobody plays it. At
least they should have the decency of investing on something new/decent
for the Switch, not ports of failed games.
