Splatoon 2’s release helped boost overall software sales in Japan last week. Between July 17 and July 23, there was a 251.55 percent increase at a total of 987,000 copies sold on the whole.

Switch also sold about 100,000 units. It was the second best week for the system – only behind the initial launch – and also raised overall Japanese hardware sales to 169,000 units. Sales were up 128.18 percent from last week.

Splatoon 2 itself sold 648,000 copies, selling over four times than that of the first Splatoon (which sold 145,000 copies in its first week on Wii U). The game even sold more than double the amount of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (285,000 copies in its first week). Splatoon 2’s attach rate with Switch hardware is also 54.14 percent, which is even higher than Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s 36.64 percent.

The demand for Switch is still higher than supply, so Media Create predicts that the total sales of Splatoon 2 will continue to pile up as more consoles are sold.

Finally, Dengeki points out that Splatoon 2 sold through 65 percent of its initial shipment in Japan.
