Video capture function to be added to Monster Hunter XX next week

Posted on November 10, 2017 by (@OnePunchMaz) in News, Switch

The Switch’s video capture function is steadily expanding to more titles – including third-party games. Next week, on November 15th, Monster Hunter XX will receive its next update (patch 1.3.0). Among other improvements, you will then be able to record 3o-second videos in the game and share them on Twitter and Facebook.

The lack of localisation on this is the dumbest thing this year. They could have sold over a million copies.

    • donut

lol… it sold less than 100k in japan. why would it sell at all over here when there’s a version much more appealing to the west coming out in about two months?

      • ben

It shipped 300k in Japan and Asia according to Capcom themselves. Try again troll.
        http://nintendoeverything.com/monster-hunter-xx-for-switch-ships-over-300000-copies-in-asia/
The last sales figures had the game at over 150K recorded physical sales.
It sold 100k on its launch day.

        • donut

so what you’re saying is if they brought it over here it would sell over 700k? even when a majority of monhun fans are hyped up for mhw and have 0 interest in this one? which again, mhw is only 2 months away.

          • ben

700k for the whole of the English speaking world is not that much. Just because people are hyped for world does not mean the people who own switches would not buy XX.. You do realise that SF2 sold 500k on the Switch?

          • donut

but thats street fighter, a game series thats super popular over here, not only that but monster hunter never sells more in places outside of japan.

          • ben

            What happened to SF5?…………..PScasuals?

          • ben

You are seriously overestimating the hype for World. PScasuals are not going to be suddenly buying MONHUN. It is funny anecdotal as this is I spoke to some Japanese High school students in my Class and they had no idea world even existed and they were monhun fans. I told them it was a PS4 game and they laughed and said, “then I wont buy it.”

          • donut

and youre severely underestimating the hype its getting, people i know who never had any interest in the series are all suddenly hopping on it now that its finally coming out to a modern console.

          • ben

I mean when you are starved for games like the PS4 is I can understand anything will get them hyped.. Are you sure they are hyped for the game or they are not just lil console warriors that are just hyped that a game is not on Nintendo?

          • donut

thats the stupidest excuse ive ever heard. not everyone’s a console fanboy like you and some people just play video games because theyre fun regardless of what console its on.

mhw looks like a great game regardless of whatever console its going to, and i dont know why you even keep bringing up PS4 when its coming out to three different consoles.

          • ben

Dude you came on here to troll! Get out of here.

          • donut

no, i just came out to tell you youre delusional, which is becoming more and more clear with every new reply you post. you expect mhxx, a game almost no one cares about to sell over 1 mil. like come on.

          • ben

You didn’t even check how much XX had sold and you came out with it sold less than 100k. You are not fooling anyone.

          • donut

ok, but you couldve said it sold 600k for all i care and it still wouldn’t have mattered. mh always sells significantly lower outside of japan.

          • ben

Then what hope does world have? Publishers can launch almost anything on the Switch and it is selling well (FIFA excluded!)

          • donut

because world is much more appealing to the west then it’s ever been. its also on a console thats much more popular in the west for those kinds of games. it’s just a better match overall.

          • ben

I don’t see Mon hun world on any amazon charts outside of Japan!

          • donut

because it’s not out yet? unless youre talking about preorders, in that case, people are probably waiting for the open beta to see if its worthwhile or not.

          • ben

It is only 6 weeks away… lol so you are now thinking people are waiting for the Beta but what happened to all the hype you were talking about?

          • donut

i mean, i know im buying it but i dont have it preordered. i dont even have a ps4. im waiting for black friday when its 200 bucks so i can get it cheap, and thats when im going to pre-order. i wouldn’t be surprised if im not the only one doing this.

          • ben

OK. So fair enough but that just makes you a Monhun fan. Doesn’t make XX a bad game and it still was a stupid decision to not release XX worldwide. I mean why leave money on the table? It isn’t like people who really want World wont buy it just because XX is available, right?

          • donut

xx doesn’t add enough to make it worth it, it’s just x/generations but with barely any additions to make it worth a second purchase. i have a switch, i love monhun, and yet i havent bought xx yet, and i probably wont when i can just play world instead.

now if they brought something like 4U to switch… i would’ve probably been all over that.

          • ben

All this may be true but that is a very individual opinion. Just because you got burnt out that means others should probably all just buy World? What about Switch owners that just want the game?

          • donut

for those people, i’d say just skip it and wait for the next one. play generations in the meantime because it’s pretty much the exact same thing anyway.

          • ben

And what if there is no next one? Or the next one is not out until 2020? Generations is not on the switch.

          • donut

monhun WILL come to switch, im 90% sure we’ll get an exclusive version of mhw built from the ground up for it in a year or two, if history is to repeat itself.

          • ben

I have a lot less confidence in Capcom than you do.

          • donut

only reason i have any form of confidence in this is because the monhun team is as far removed from capcom as possible, which is the only reason why these games still manage to be good.

          • ben

            I hope you are right.

          • donut

look at it this way, every generation of monhun started out on a home console (ps2/wii) and then their superior version(s) would come out on a handheld (psp/3ds)

with 4th gen, they tried to skip that by having it on handhelds right away and thats probably a big part of the reason why it didn’t sell as much and why a lot of people got burnt out by the time generations and double cross came out.

like you and everyone else said before, handheld is their main money maker so they’re not going to completely cut it out of the picture. sure, they might skip out on it for an entry or two, but they aren’t going to outright drop it. and considering switch is really the only handheld out and sony has no plans in making their own, i don’t see why we wouldn’t get a monster hunter game on switch sooner or later.

          • Wanderlei

4th gen was best selling followed by X.

          • donut

third gen sold about 9.4 mil (excluding sales from wii u/ps3 ports), 4th gen sold 8.2 mil, and “x” gen sold 6.1 mil. not only that, but best selling monhun game of all time was portable 3rd for psp, a third gen game.

          • Wanderlei

            Monster Hunter 4 (3DS) = 8.2mil
            Monster Hunter Freedom 3 (PSP) = 4.9mil

            http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/Monster_Hunter (source Capcom financials)

          • donut

thats your problem, youre taking it from a wikia. if you look on capcom’s official site you’ll see that both 4 and 4U = 4.1 mil, which is probably why its listed as 8.2 here because they merged both of these versions.

            http://www.capcom.co.jp/ir/english/finance/million.html

          • Wanderlei

That is only sane way to categorize is presented in wiki, 4 and 4U are same game.

Not to mention, MH 4/U and MHX are 4th gen it is more no matter how you package.

          • Tjnswitch

MHXX Switch IS available world-wide for purchase. The Switch is region-free. Anyone with $$$ and the desire to play it can ! Why is it so hard to understand that concept ?

          • amak11

No everyone is going to play it in Japanese

          • Tjnswitch

Honestly it adds a nice edge to the game that I haven’t experienced before. If your afraid of playing games in Japanese then your NOT a true Nintendo gamer period !!!

          • amak11

You’re an idiot. I like Monster Hunter, and yes I have everything memorized. But you need to use your head. It won’t sell to a majority English speaking world that already complains about the game series already being difficult. Adding an additional barrier to that is just a bad decision for overall perception.

          • Tjnswitch

I’m an idiot, yet your the one complaining about a Switch game you don’t even own & it sucks because ” you need to use your head” in a game…..uuh i think the real idiot is clear, HOWEVER i’m going to be the bigger person and say that neither of us are and I wish you best of luck on ALL your future Monster Hunter adventures and quests. I understand your frustration but your illusions that the game is NOT accessible is just not true !!!! Best wishes

          • Tjnswitch

uh yeah thats a given, just like not everyone likes Vanilla ice-cream.

          • ben

It is a portable game. It is a much better match for a portable. On a homeconsole it is just another boss battle open world game. It has nothing special. It has a chance at being popular with the Bloodborne darksouls fan base.

          • donut

one: monster hunter started on the ps2, not a portable.
two: portables are more popular with children over here, not adults, and monster hunter is not aimed towards children.
three: if you think monster hunter is nothing special, why are you even getting defensive over it?
four: why does everything have to be dark souls

          • ben

Dude this is a stupid thing to get into. PS2 monhun was almost 20 years ago. The series has been popular with teens in Japan and that is the market that has been keeping the series alive. If it wasn’t for people that were not even alive during the Ps2 era Monhun would be long dead.
Monhun is a special portable game. It is not special on a pc or homeconsole where there are many games in the same genre.

Monhun is designed around 20-40 minute missions. It is perfect for portables. It is nothing special on home based systems as it is a grind fest.

          • donut

no one i know plays monster hunter in short bursts like that. whenever me or my friends play it, we always make sure that we can set aside a few hours to play it otherwise youre not going to accomplish anything in it. sure the missions may be 20-40 minutes, but you also have to consider the prep time for said missions among other things.

          • ben

This is called individual perspective. It is not true of the vast majority of the people who buy the game. Remember this game is a Japanese game that is mostly popular with Japanese Junior highschool students and possibly all they way up to college students most of them play it on the train.

          • nemo37

Your second point has not really been correct. Nintendo released the demographic base for Switch and it is much more similar (in fact skewing a tad older; although not significantly so) to the PS4, including in the West. Overall, dedicated video game systems (portables and home consoles alike) have been trending more towards young adults than children or even young teenagers. The PS4, XOne, Wii U, 3DS, Vita have all had smaller adoption rates by children and young teens than their preceding systems.

In addition, while MonHun did start on the PS2, it was moved to PSP where it experienced much better sales. Despite releases on PS2, PS3, Wii and Wii U the series has done better on PSP and 3DS (though there is one major caveat to this that I will get to in the paragraph below).

Now MonHun World is interesting, in that it is a totally new entry (not seen on a home console since the PS2; as the entries on PS3 and Wii U where both remakes and ports) and there is more word of mouth surrounding it. I am quite interested to see how it and its potential sequel (should one be made in a few years time) performs in the West and in Japan.

          • donut

when i said that about the audiences, i was more referring to 3ds than switch. while i think world would’ve sold best on switch, it was probably in development way too early for that to even be an option.

but yeah, i think if they are going to do it this way (world on consoles, with next version on switch) that would be the best way to go about things without it getting stale, because that way you’d literally get the best of both worlds (pun intended) for both west and japan. it’s also great because they don’t have to worry about hardware limitations when they make the original game, so they can go all out with the scale.

really LOL now, thank you i needed a chuckle !

          • Game_God

            ūüėČ

          • Tjnswitch

            :oP

      • Apfel

Man, probably sold only 100k because people already bought the japanese 3ds version… probably a large percentage of those 100k buyers are double dipping.
3ds version was never localized in the West. ben is right. It would have sold pretty well. Especially because it launched when Switch owners had nothing else to buy besides Troll and I in August.

New MH is not coming to Switch. People want the XX version…already available in Japan.

        • Aline Piroutek

Yeah. It is like Ultra Street Fighter IV and Pokémon Platinum. Sold less than the original game because it is an expansion.

          • Aline Piroutek

Bonus: this expansion already existed for a while in 3DS.

      • Game_God
      • Wanderlei

It was released in 3DS prior in Japan so Switch sales were less. In the west it was never released on 3DS prior.

      • Pepperkeet

wow can you be any more wrong? what a doofus

        • donut

wrong or not, there’s still no way it would sell more over here than it did in japan, and it sold embarrassingly low over there for a monster hunter game. bringing it over here is not gonna make it magically sell 1 million copies.

  • Aline Piroutek

Bring an update with english text to the Japanese version.

    • Tjnswitch

      Amen , thank you !

  • Aline Piroutek

Capcom is holding off MHXX in the west to make people buy MHW as they thought it would steal sales from the home console version.

    • Tjnswitch

      Preach on brother !!!

  • Force

Excellent, now I’ll be able to make screenshots of the game I don’t own, because the company refuses to localize it!… Oh wait…

    • amak11

Honestly I feel like they’re waiting on Nintendo to pick up that tab again, like they did with Stories

      • Force

Could be, I’d just like some clarity on this whole situation. If they’re waiting on World, why can’t they just come out and explain that? One cannot understand what one doesn’t know about….

    • Jaxon Holden

Import it like I did. It’s WAY easier to play than I ever could have imagined. Use premade item sets to load before each hunt, include hot and cold drinks to cover every map. Prepare capture set. Color tells you want kind of quest it is. Kiranico database has English and JP and toggles with a single click. Online translations for all menus which you’ll memorize within a day or two.

It’s so fun, plus with Google Translate and if you want to find an item in the database, just paste the text from your phone that the camera detected into google followed by “MHXX” and the first result will be the Kiranico entry. Toggle to English and bam, there’s the item you need and where to find it.

      • Force

We’ve spoken about this a thousand times before, Jaxon. some people don’t WANT to have to learn Japanese to play this game. I know the franchise, I’ve played it plenty, but I don’t want to have to constantly look at a guide to know what the F I’m using in crafting or whatever, no. So either Capcom stops being a D and localizes it, or they can F off.

        • donut

he didnt mention learning or needing to know japanese one time in his entire comment, and he’s right theres absolutely no reason you need to know japanese to play a monster hunter game when so much of it is obvious enough with icons and whatnot. and if you really need the extra help there’s plenty of guides out there to use.

      • Tjnswitch

No matter how many times we try and tell them we are the bad guys. Something is telling me that most of the complainers do not even own a Switch !

  • Tjnswitch

Well, this game is radical ! One thing that flash-BUGS me is the people complaining (HF-Autistic Millennials with Smart Phones ? ?) about a game that they do not even own! It’s not outta touch…its readily available for purchase on Amazon, Eshop….ect. The Switch is region-free and so is our brains !!! Maybe there going to add an English-patch with this update or in the future, either way WE GOT THIS GAME TOO and most of the menu layouts are VERY similar to previous MH releases, you can use Technology Tools (Google Trans. App) to translate stuff with ease. After playing it for 6 hours so I noticed that you can remember the last two letters / symbols in words and sentences to get the gist of what you need to do to complete the Quest ! “I’m Lovin it” !!!

    • amak11

      Shut up

      • Constantinos Lapiotis

        You shut up impolite person

  • Locky Mavo

Strange that Nintendo doesn’t just handle the western localization at this point.

    • Game_God

They should do it, just to piss off Capcom!!!

  • Reggie

I came here to read the comments for a good laugh. Actually, the stupidity here is a bit overwhelming.

    • donut

people are unreasonable and would rather have capcom waste money localizing a low-effort expansion to a mediocre entry to the series so it can sell like crap so capcom can say “huh well i guess monster hunter just doesnt sell well on the switch over here, lets never do this again” instead of just waiting patiently for them to release an actual good monster hunter on the system and actually have it sell high.

      • Reggie

When I said stupidity, that included everyone here, including you.

  • Good for Japanese audience! Capcom could re-think release this game for western gamers.
