The Legend of Zelda producer Eiji Aonuma interested in a movie based on the series
The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma has expressed interested in seeing a movie based on the series.
Aonuma briefly commented on this in an interview with Polygon. When asked if the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie has him excited for the prospect of a Zelda adaptation, he replied:
“I have to say, I am interested. For sure. But it’s not just me being interested in something that makes things happen, unfortunately.”
Hidemaro Fujibayashi, the director of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, added: “Maybe the voice of the fans is what’s important here.”
The Super Mario Bros. Movie marks Nintendo’s first true step into the movie business, and needless to say, it’s been a massive success. It already managed to cross the $1 billion mark and is the second highest-grossing animated film of all time domestically.
Nintendo has spoken on a few occasions about its interest in pursuing more movies in the future. President Shuntaro Furukawa most recently stated this week that the company will pursue a “variety of visual content” going forward. As one of Nintendo’s most important franchises, a movie based on The Legend of Zelda would certainly make sense.
