Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin anime

An anime adaptation based on Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin is in production, Toho announced today. P.A. Works will be handling the animation.

More details were not released, but it should follow the story of the game in some way. Here’s a rundown of the original premise:

Spoiled harvest goddess Sakuna finds herself banished from her opulent celestial home to an island overrun with demons. In the untamed wilderness, she must rediscover her birthright as the daughter of a warrior god and harvest goddess by weathering the elements, fighting monsters, and cultivating rice, the source of her power. By her side in this forbidding place is her guardian Tama and a group of outcast humans. Together, these unlikely companions must join hands to tame both the soil and the demons of Hinoe Island.

We have a teaser for the anime below.

This isn’t the first time that Sakuna: Rice of Ruin has been adapted for another format. A manga adaptation previously ran in November 2021 for a year.

The Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin anime will air in Japan later this year on TV Tokyo and its affiliates.
