A closer look at WWE 2K18’s technical disappointments on Switch
We’ve seen a number of impressive Switch ports over the past year such as Doom. On the other end of the spectrum, WWE 2K18 is proably the biggest disappointment. Digital Foundry has explored the Switch version in detail and unfortunately, even after patches, it’s a rather big mess.
WWE 2K18’s frame rate on Switch just isn’t up to snuff. When the frame rate dips, the whole game as a whole slows down. That can cause problems for audio since you may hear a character speak, only to see his lips finally move a few seconds later – so things are out of sync.
When docked, WWE 2K18’s frame rate on Switch for wrestler intros tend to run around 20 FPS, but with dips to around 13 FPS. It targets 720p in docked and portable modes, but due to a dynamic resolution, it can run lower than that.
During gameplay, for 1-on-1 matches, WWE 2K18 runs much closer to 30 FPS. But when you start throwing extra characters in the mix for different types of matches, it’s more along the likes of 20 FPS.
