Paper Mario coming to DS?

Paper Mario was one of the greatest games on the Nintendo 64, and has even branched out onto the GameCube and Wii. Considering the enormous success the DS has earned, one would assume Paper Mario – now a mainstream franchise for Nintendo – would migrate the system. It appears Nintendo may be attempting to do so via a port. A listing has been revealed which includes the first Paper Mario game from the Nintendo 64 heading to the DS. Although fans would most likely prefer an original game over a port, the option to have Paper Mario on the go is an enticing option. As with most unconfirmed news, however, I would consider this a rumor.

Nintendo: No new DS

Over the past few days, a not-so-outlandish rumor has been circulating across the web that Nintendo is planning on unveiling a new Nintendo DS model at this year’s E3. A new DS iteration is not out of the question, as the GBA also went through a number of remakes before Nintendo finally decided to move on to the next generation of handheld gaming. Nintendo, however, has responded with a stern response, completely denying the existance of any new DS model.

“We cannot comment on the specifics of what will be announced at E3, but at the very least there won’t be anything like what Mr. Hamamura suggested, so would like to clearly deny this. We’re having a hard time understanding what kind of evidence [Mr. Hamamura] had for saying this.”

It really is hard at this point to determine whether or not a new DS is on the way. Considering a similar situation occurred before the announcement of the DS Lite, it is probably the best to wait until this year’s E3 to see if Nintendo has any DS goodies up its sleeve.

Castle of Ecclesia was previously rumored to be releasing on the Nintendo DS after the success of two other Castlevania games on the system. No details about the game are known, but it is expected that more information will be released in the coming weeks.

DS overtakes PS2 in sales

Posted on 16 years ago by (@NE_Brian) in DS, News | 0 comments

Nintendo DS – 22160000
Playstation 2 – 21220000

It still seems amazing that Nintendo’s handheld has done so well. It exceeded everyone’s expectations and has become a household product. These sales account for the Japanese market only, though it is a respectable achievement.

Even though the above image is specifically related to the PS3, it technically applies to all types of video game platforms. According to this graph, games with only trailers released earn the most sales, whereas games that release demos see a noticeable drop. On the other hand, providing the public with neither a trailer or demos sees a significant drop in the number of units sold. In general, gamers appear to cram for demos, which makes this data surprising. Personally, I feel that, although trailers can provide consumers with knowledge about the game in general, demos are the better choice as they can help video game buyers to determine if the demo’s gameplay suits their interests.

Summary from IGN

Nintendo Media Summit begins. Cammie takes stage. Talks about her new role at Nintendo. Mentions Wii Fit. “Wii Fit can show people who have never had an interest in gaming that this is something that is a heck of a lot of fun to be involved with.” Dunaway also says, “Wii Fit is very much an answer to core gamers.”

Dunaway refers to Mario Kart as a “bridge” title that will appeal to both casual and hardcore players.

Confirms that NOA will spend some time over the next two days talking about WiiWare. (IGN knows of several WiiWare games expected to be demoed throughout Friday, including LostWinds.)

“Want to make sure that [Wii] is an opportunity for game developers to try something different.” References Boom Blox, de Blob and Guitar Hero DS.

One more piece of news: Mario Super Sluggers. Coming to America. “We think that this is going to take these three wonderful areas of Mario, baseball and the unique capabilities of the Wii remote and bring them together in an exciting experience.”
