Eidos brand to remain and company to run as independent, wholly-owned subsidiary of Square Enix Holdings.

Eidos will remain as an independent operation, as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Square Enix Holdings Co.,Ltd., following the completion of the £84 million acquisition last week.

Phil Rogers will continue in his role as CEO of Eidos, reporting directly to Yoichi Wada, President and CEO Square Enix Holdings Co., Ltd. and Eidos will continue to focus on delivering on the clear strategy to leverage the company’s franchises and develop world class games. Also confirmed is that the ‘Eidos’ brand will continue to be the brand identity for the business.

The table is set for card-flipping fun with this week’s release of Clubhouse Games™ Express: Card Classics on Nintendo DSiWare™, while the new Paper Airplane Chase™ packs portable challenges for fans of airborne action. WiiWare™ users will find Cocoto Platform Jumper, a wildly imaginative new platformer populated by mysterious creatures. Last but not least, Nobunaga’s Ambition, a classic strategy game from the Super NES™ system era, finds its way to the Virtual Console™.

As an added bonus to help celebrate the recent launch of the new Nintendo DSi™ system, Club Nintendo members now will be able to earn coins for registering, linking and providing feedback about their Nintendo DSi systems. They also will be able to earn coins for providing feedback about Nintendo DSiWare titles, which will be automatically registered on their Club Nintendo account when they link their Nintendo DSi Shop to their Club Nintendo account.

Following the news that Muramasa: The Demon Blade would no longer be published by XSEED, the company has said that the relationship between Marvelous and XSEED is perfectly fine. An XSEED rep has also given some insight as to why Ignition will now be publishing Muramasa.

“No damage control needed, things with us and Marvelous are fine as they are still a very important partner of ours. A business decision had to be made regarding the future of Muramasa: The Demon Blade and we respect their decision. And I’m sure you’ve heard by now that Ignition Entertainment is the new publisher, so the title is in good hands.”

This doesn’t come as a surprise to me. If there was a quarrel between the two companies, I would’ve expected something to be leaked about the reason why. The fact that neither XSEED nor Marvelous seems inclined to talk about any such details shows that it must have been a quick and clean break. It’s good to know that Muramasa will not be affected, though.
