D3Publisher has officially announced the Adventure Time game for the DS today. Here’s a surprise twist: it’s also coming to the 3DS.

You can find the press release for “Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why’d you steal our garbage?!” below.

LOS ANGELES–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Ready for a mathematical, algebraic, radical time? D3Publisher (D3P), a publisher and developer of interactive entertainment software, and Cartoon Network Enterprises (CNE) today officially announced the upcoming release of Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why’d you steal our garbage?!, a video game based on the popular Cartoon Network series, Adventure Time. This is the first Adventure Time video game that will release on the Nintendo 3DS™ hand-held system and Nintendo DS™ hand-held system late fall.

In the first licensed Adventure Time video game, Finn and Jake wake up one morning to find their trash stolen by the Ice King. Jake couldn’t care less about half-eaten bananas, crumpled up burrito wrappers, and old chicken diapers – but when they find out the Ice King is using their stolen goods to construct a Garbage Princess, the heroes embark on a fantastical adventure to teach him a lesson! Journey through the Land of Ooo in an offbeat adventure and discover perilous dungeons and unimaginable treasures, while playing as Finn and Jake in a unique action-adventure experience.

Kingdom Hearts hasn’t been on a console in a long time. Square Enix has been making portable spinoffs for a number of years, though this might be changing soon.

In an interview with Game Informer, Tetsuya Nomura expressed interest in returning to consoles. While answering a question about a possible PlayStation Vita title, Nomura said, “I also feel that it’s about time that Kingdom Hearts should go back to being on a console.”

Nomura was later asked about HD versions of Kingdom Hearts I and II. Regarding this, he told the magazine:

“I do have an interest in HD versions, and I’m currently researching them. If it is possible, I would like to do something about the series being spread over so many different consoles, too. I am thinking a lot about the future.”

Last but not least, Nomura wasn’t able to confirm if the next Kingdom Hearts title will be KHIII, but he did say that fans “may be able to find a hint if you play through Dream Drop Distance to the very end.”

According to Nomura:

“I’m not able to disclose any information on what’s coming next or any other future plans, but you may be able to find a hint if you play through Dream Drop Distance to the very end.”

There’s a mix of good and bad news to report on regarding The Pinball Arcade.

First, the game isn’t coming to Wii. It’s not going to happen because of technical issues. And let’s face it: at this point, it’d be pointless to bring it to the console.

Developer FarSight Studios was able to confirm a Wii U version, however. The developer hopes to finish the game up “as close to the launch of the platform as possible.”

As was written on Facebook:

“FarSight developed 12 titles for the Wii. Unfortunately, the Wii isn’t powerful enough to run Pinball Arcade. We are very excited about the Wii-U and hope to release as close to the launch of the platform as possible.”

The Pinball Arcade was also being developed for the 3DS, but it’s been placed on the back burner.

FarSight Studios explained:

“We have a plan to get the performance we need out of the 3DS to run the ROM emulation, however some R&D is needed before we know for sure whether it will work. The 3DS version is on hold until we can invest the time and resources into this R&D.”

Last week we heard that Art of Balance Touch! will hit the European eShop on May 24. The North American release date won’t be too far behind. Shin’en has today confirmed an early June launch for the game.
