PORT WASHINGTON, NY, January 13, 2011 – According to leading market research company, The NPD Group, the preliminary estimate* for total consumer spend on gaming content via all monetization methods, including new physical video and PC games, used games, game rentals, subscriptions, digital full-game downloads, social network games, downloadable content, and mobile game apps, is between $15.4 to $15.6 billion. This total consumer spend on games content in 2010 represent sales that are flat to down by as much as 1 percent when compared to 2009.
Based on this estimate, spending on new physical content at retail continues to account for the majority of the total consumer spend on games content. Best Buy’s “buy 2 get 1 free” sale begins on Sunday

“Buy 2 get 1 free” sales are traditionally reserved for the holiday season. That isn’t preventing Best Buy from initiating the deal once again, though.
The retailer is offering the sale beginning this Sunday through January 23. Consumers can choose from any title, on any system – portables included. The only limitation appears to be that the games must be at least $29.99. The deal is a perfect opportunity to take advantage of for those who missed out on releases such as Donkey Kong Country Returns or Kirby’s Epic Yarn last year.

Sora’s journey in KINGDOM HEARTS II has drawn to a close, now a new tale is set to begin.
London (13 January 2011) – Square Enix Ltd., the publisher of SQUARE ENIX® interactive entertainment products in Europe and other PAL territories, announces KINGDOM HEARTS Re:coded will be available from tomorrow (14 January 2011) across all PAL territories, exclusively for the Nintendo DS system.
Jiminy Cricket is looking over the journal he used to document his first adventure with Sora when he discovers a mysterious message. He didn’t write it – so how did it get there? King Mickey is determined to find out, so he and his friends decide to digitise the journal and delve into its deepest secrets. Inside this “datascape” dwells a second Sora who is about to embark on a grand adventure of his very own.
Maximillian and the Rise of the Mutant Mudds not heading to DSiWare
Posted on 13 years ago by Brian(@NE_Brian) in DS, News | 0 comments
This information comes from Renegade Kid’s Jools Watsham…
“It looks like Maximilian will not be rising up to thwart the Mutant Mudds on DSiWare. This makes me sad. I really wanted to see it happen. One month after I put the call out, we have 452 comments from fine folks who want to see Maximilian and the Rise of the Mutant Mudds on DSiWare. Unfortunately, that is 548 votes short of where we need to be in order to start development of the title.”
I’m pretty bummed about this! Platformers are my favorite genre (it has some shooting and action elements as well), and Renegade Kid is a fantastic game developer. So I would have been interested in trying the game out. It’d be neat if the game ended up on 3DSWare somehow, though based on the lack of comments Renegade Kid received, I don’t think that is a possibility right now.
