Nintendo has started hosting a few events around the United States to celebrate the upcoming release of Professor Layton and the Unwound Future. If you attend the “Ladies vs. Gents” activity, you’ll encounter actors dressed in London-like attire, and you’ll be able to enter a British-style telephone where you can take on puzzles from the upcoming Professor Layton title. So far, events have been held in San Francisco and Boston, though Nintendo will also be present in Chicago (tomorrow) and Philadelphia (Friday). We’re included an official press release below which is in regards to the San Francisco outing, but it contains additional information that applies to all of the events. You can also check out a teaser video above.

BAY AREA MEN AND WOMEN GO HEAD-TO-HEAD IN PROFESSOR LAYTON’S PUZZLE CHALLENGE

Nintendo Visits Union Square to Find Out Who’s Better at Solving Puzzles – Ladies or Gents?

WHAT: Nintendo is hosting a puzzle challenge to help celebrate the launch of Professor Layton and the Unwound Future™, a new hand-held game created exclusively for the Nintendo DS™ family of systems. On Sept. 7, visitors to San Francisco’s Union Square shopping center are invited to take part in Professor Layton’s “Ladies vs. Gents” Puzzle Challenge. Actors dressed as though they stepped out of the game and into the present will invite consumers to enter a classic red, British-style telephone booth – a nod to the game’s London setting – and play through a fun and challenging selection of the new game’s puzzles at this free event. Men’s and women’s scores will be tallied and compared throughout the day to determine which gender has the top puzzle-solving chops. Similar events will be held in Boston, Chicago and Philadelphia to give men and women around the country an early look at the game and a chance to rack up points for their gender.

It isn’t too often that Nintendo decides to release an firmware upgrade for the DSi. In fact, the last time the company did so was back in April – until today, that is. DSi Menu version 1.4.1U is now available. According to Nintendo’s official website, “This update provides behind-the-scenes improvements to system performance.” It’s possible that the update will attempt to disrupt flash card usage as well as homebrew, though that hasn’t been confirmed just yet.

Motohide Eshiro has previously expressed some interest in making a sequel to Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth. It definitely seems like Eshiro is proud of his original work, as Famitsu has revealed today that another game in the series is in the works. This is just an initial leak, as only a picture of the magazine’s latest cover has been taken. You can expect the first scans and details to pop up shortly, however.
