We posted about this yesterday, but Capcom has sent out a press release regarding the awards for their titles…

– Capcom receives high marks for its game design techniques and for establishing a new style of communication –

Capcom Co., Ltd. (Capcom) is pleased to announce that the hit titles “Okami” and “Monster Hunter Freedom” have received the highest award in the Visual Arts and Game Design categories at the CEDEC AWARDS (sponsored by the Computer Entertainment Suppliers Association). The awards were announced at the CESA Developers Conference 2009 (CEDEC 2009) held from September 1st to 3rd.

“Okami” is a nature-themed action game in which the hero takes on the form of a wolf named Amaterasu and does battle with ghouls and ghosts in order to restore nature’s beauty to a devastated world. It delivers an audacious visual interpretation of nature and animals, rich and beautiful, rendered in a vivid Japanese-style through unique design techniques that do not rely on tone shaders. Since its release in 2006, Okami has garnered numerous awards, and continues to expand the possibilities of visual artwork within a game with the scheduled all-new October 2009 release of Okami for the Wii®.

SAN FRANCISCO – September 3, 2009 – Ubisoft today announced that it will be releasing an all new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles(TM) adventure game in honor of the 25th anniversary of the brand. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Arcade Attack, developed exclusively for Nintendo DS(TM) system, has an original storyline and is a side-scrolling beat-’em-up game. It is a tribute to the original coin-op classics that made the Turtles into video game legends. The game pits the four Ninja Turtle brothers against their old nemesis, Shredder, and his many villainous henchmen.

“The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 25th anniversary ‘shell-ebration’ is quickly turning into a Turtle fan’s dream, especially if they love video games,” said Gary Richardson, CEO of Mirage Studios. “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Arcade Attack will absolutely thrill the old school Turtle fan, especially the ones that recall putting in countless hours at the arcade, as well as the newer fan who loves ninja action.”

“One of the explanations we have is that there’s a lot of double ownership. So people having a Wii and a 360 and/or PS3. They’re really playing different types of games on those two machines, and historically up to know we assume those people will have played the more mature content on the more high-tech machine. Dead Space: Extraction is going to be a very nice test of that hypothesis, because we’re really building a game where the Wii version is very different to the Dead Space game on 360 and PS3, and we’ll actually see whether we can reach more people with a) a great game and b) interesting content. If that’s not going to work, then obviously the whole proposal from our point of view at least of more mature games on the Wii just does not work.” – Dr Jens Uwe Intat, European VP at Electronic Arts

Whether or not you’re interested in horror titles, I think most of us can agree that Dead Space Extraction is a quality game. Unfortunately, that doesn’t mean EA will see positive sales. We’ll have to see how the game performs, but I do hope it sells more than MadWorld.
